Belinda’s back arched as she ground her hips down and back, down and back, trying desperately to reach a climax.

You are incredible! the man beneath her moaned.

Shut up, she growled, glancing with alarm at the growing light in her bedroom window as dawn quickly approached. Just shut up and do your job!

She reached down and pushed her hands against his hip bones, raising herself up and forcing his erection to change angles, hoping she could hit her spot. And soon.

What are you looking at? he asked as she turned again to the sunlight starting to break.

Which…part…of…shut up do…you…not understand? she snapped. Sunlight fully crested the windowsill, lighting up her sweat covered body.

Wow, the man whispered, in awe of the beauty that rode him.

Shit! she swore as she pushed away and quickly got off the bed. Dammit!

The man lay among the piled sheets as his chest heaved from exertion. What? What is it? Did I do something wrong?

Belinda looked at him and his erection and shook her head as she went into the bathroom to clean up.

No, you performed just fine, she called as she started and stepped into the shower. I just can’t get myself there.

The man got up from the bed and followed her into the bathroom. Want to try again?

Belinda laughed and poked her head out, wiping the water from her eyes. Oh, you’re cute, Todd. Thanks, but no thanks. I need to get to work. Sometimes things just don’t work out.

Lucien, the man replied. My name is Lucien, not Todd.

Rinsing the shampoo from her hair, Belinda laughed. Lucien? I don’t think so. I checked your driver’s license. You’re Todd Plimpton and you live on 34th street SW.

Todd yanked the shower door open. You went through my wallet?

Belinda turned the shower off and wrung the water from her shoulder length, auburn hair. She raised her eyebrows in amusement.

Hand me my towel. Todd did and she pushed past him and began to dry off. You think I’d just bring some guy home from a bar without checking him out first? She caught him watching her as she wiped the water from her breasts. Eyes up, stud.

He looked at her, grinning. Sure you don’t want to give me another try?

She wrapped the towel about her hair and wiped the steam from the mirror. Sorry.

So…what do I do? he laughed.

Belinda turned to him and glanced down, seeing he was still ready to go. She patted his cheek and gave him a friendly squeeze below. Feel free to use the shower. Just make it quick, I need you out in ten minutes or I’m late for work.

    You don’t want to help?

No, she snorted as she left the bathroom and opened her dresser, grabbing her black sports bra and matching panties. But don’t be embarrassed. You aren’t the first man to relieve himself of the dreaded blue balls in that shower. Just aim for the drain please.

He stood there, naked and dumbfounded.

Better hurry, Todd, or Little Lucien won’t want to play, she smiled, stepping into her jeans as she grabbed a black t-shirt out of her small closet. Ten minutes. Tick tock.

She left him there, his mouth hanging open and went to the kitchen and started the coffee. After taking the first sip of the steaming, black beverage, she leaned against the counter and sighed. She was frustrated she didn’t have an orgasm. It had seemed harder and harder for her to achieve climax and that worried her. Being a necromancess she drew her energy from her orgasms, but only if they happened before dawn. It was at that moment that her body, mind and soul joined and she was complete, allowing her to recharge the precious power reserves she relied on in her life and job. Without a good cum she was just another person, not a woman with powers over the dead.

She finished the coffee and rinsed the mug, setting it in the dish drainer next to her small kitchen sink. She looked out the window and gazed at the Portland skyline that wasn’t blocked by the Douglas firs that covered most of her neighborhood.

She felt Todd before he came into the room that was kitchen, dining room and living room combined, jealous of the energy flowing off of him after having satisfied himself.

You need a ride? she asked, taking a seat and pulling on a pair of black, steel-toed work boots. I’m going downtown.

Nah. Thanks, though, he said, looking about the house. Nice place. Didn’t really get to see it when we came in last night.

Thanks, she replied, getting up and grabbing a windbreaker from a coat rack by the front door. My late husband and I bought it just before the Great Displacement. This neighborhood was spared a lot of the destruction of that first year. I’ve kept it up since then.

Sorry about your husband, Todd said, nodding his head as he picked up his jacket from the couch and searched for his shoes. I lost my wife and three kids.

Belinda found one of his shoes under the dining table and handed it to him as he found the other by the media center. Three kids? How old are you?

Now, that’s not polite, he smiled. I wouldn’t dare ask you how old you are.

I’m a woman, different rules apply.

That they do, he laughed. I’m thirty-two. Our son was born our first year in college. I quit to raise him so my wife could pursue her engineering degree. I was an English major, so no real loss. The family just grew from there.

Belinda looked at Todd, really looked at him for the first time. Last night at O’Malley’s Tavern he seemed like just another man she could use for his equipment. But now, as she looked at his deep-set, bright blue eyes and the small lines starting to show around his almost too large mouth, she could see there was more to him than just a body with a dick attached.

Sorry about your family, she replied, crossing and kissing him softly on the mouth. Tough times for us all.

Ain’t that the truth, he nodded.

She squeezed his hand and looked him in the eye. Sure you don’t want a ride? I really don’t mind.

Nah. I’ll grab the bus. I’m free today so I think I may just ride about and see where I end up. But…

    But, what?

How about dinner? he asked hopefully. I know a horrible greasy spoon by my apartment. Cheap as hell, but great fries. You like fries?

Belinda watched the emotions play on his face and debated her answer. He frowned slightly and pulled away.

Never mind, he said. My bad. This was just a night and I should leave it at that.

No, no! she responded, a little more urgently than she intended. No. Dinner would be great. Are you flexible with the time? Work isn’t exactly a set schedule for me.

Yeah. I’m between jobs right now, but not in a bad way. My schedule is wide open.

Great, she said, pulling him out the front door. She walked him to the driveway and unlocked her pick-up truck. Handing him her card, she said, Call me around six. I’ll forget, so the ball’s in your court. Can I at least give you a ride to the bus stop? It’s all the way down the hill.

Todd glanced around and took a deep breath, letting the fresh spring air fill his lungs. No, thanks. I like to walk.

Well, Todd Plimpton, she said as she leaned in and kissed his cheek. I’ll expect a call. Then she was in her truck and speeding away, leaving Todd with her card in his hand.

He looked down and read the small, black lettering on the generic business card: Belinda Silverthorne, Chief Investigator, Bureau Of Undead Affairs.

Well hello, Chief Investigator Silverthorne, he said to himself. I’m pleased to meet you.

Late again, Bel, Vincent Giordino, her partner, said, not looking up from his desk as Belinda poured some water from the dispenser by their office door. Get laid and recharge those sexy batteries of yours?

I wish, she sighed, plopping down into her chair. She tapped at her screen and brought up the day’s waiting messages. No luck.

Vincent glanced up from his own vid screen and frowned. How long has it been? Two, three weeks? Cutting it kinda close don’t you think?

I’m well aware of the time gone by, Vince, thanks, Belinda snapped. I don’t need you keeping track of my jollies, okay?

Hey, I’m your partner, he said, shoving away from his desk and rolling his chair over to her. You ever think of forgetting men and just using toys? He grabbed her cup and took a sip. They have batteries that can be easily replaced.

She took her cup back from him and grimaced. Has to be flesh on flesh, Vince. Those are the rules. No energy from self-pleasure, even if it is physically satisfying.

Stupid rules, he laughed, rolling back to his own desk.

Same rules that make you disappear every full moon. We are what we are.

Vince nodded and his eyes quickly glanced to the calendar hanging on their office wall. Speaking of, don’t forget I won’t be around this Wednesday through Friday. Gotta go lock my wolfy self up.

Better than having you try to hump my leg for three days, Belinda grinned.

I wish it was that fun. I’ll be out of cell range until Friday evening. Make sure you take back-up if you get into any shit. He fixed his eyes on her, his face serious. No jokes, Bel. Now is not the time for heroics.

Since when have I been a hero?

Since the day you burdened me with your insubordinate ass, a gravely voice said from the office door.

Belinda and Vincent looked up to see Lieutenant Spindler standing there with his hands on his hips.

James Spindler had been the head of the Portland branch of the Bureau Of Undead Affairs since the doors opened the first year after the Great Displacement. He was one of the few humans that saw the potential of bringing in the Other Kind to help with the undead mess that began to plague the world five years earlier. Spindler had found Belinda toughing it out on her own, using her immense powers as a necromancess to keep her neighborhood free of the flesh-hungry, walking dead. He recognized the benefits of having someone that could control the dead on his side.

He could remember her trying to deny what she was, used to hiding her powers from everyone, but he never let up. She finally agreed to help with the war against the undead and they had fought side by side that first year, putting undead to rest and stopping those of the Other Kind that saw the Great Displacement as a chance to end humanity.

When the Bureau of Undead Affairs was created, Spindler had refused to be a part of it unless Belinda, and others like her, were allowed to join. The time for humanity’s fear of the occult, the supernatural and the unknown was at an end. Back then keeping your head in the sand while the dead walked the earth and hunted people down in the streets, was just not an option.

You get laid yet? Spindler asked, munching on some type of sugar coated pastry.

Jesus, Belinda scowled. Does my sex life have to be the first thing we discuss in the morning?

When it’s as tied to your job as it is, yes, it does, he took another bite and Belinda looked away as a glop of jelly fell from his lips and onto the floor. Check your messages. We have a nest in Southside. Over in the Crocker warehouses. Get geared up and out there right away.

Isn’t that a SWAT issue? Vincent asked.

Yeah, and they have the area cordoned off, but requested help, Spindler shrugged. If SWAT wants help then we go help.

We’re on it, Belinda said, opening the case behind her and grabbing her service pistol. She didn’t like guns, so she never took it home with her. She only tolerated it because it was regulation. She checked the magazine and clipped two more to her belt. Ready?

Vincent, on the other hand loved his guns. He checked two pistols and placed them in their shoulder holsters. He slid a snub nosed revolver into the holster strapped to his ankle then grabbed a pump action shotgun from the case behind his desk.

Don’t forget the rocket launcher, Spindler laughed.

It’s already checked out, Vincent replied, as he and Belinda stepped past the Lieutenant.

I was kidding! Spindler shouted after them.

He wasn’t! Belinda called back as they hit the stairs down to the parking garage.

It took them longer than they liked to get to the Crocker warehouses. They were forced to stop at several checkpoints along the way, having to flash their credentials to the heavily armed Portland Police that manned each checkpoint. The last officer had explained that there
