Emanuel Villanueva

    Chapter 1 - The massacre

    FADE IN

EXT. CONVENT OUR LADY OF THE PAINS - NIGHT

A Victorian cathedral type building at the top of a hill erects into the sky, breaking the dark clouds in the middle of a lightning storm.

At the bottom of it there is a narrow muddy path that leads to the main entrance. Hard rain falls, product of the wicked storm; a lightning bolt lights the sky, a second strikes the cross at the

    roof top, blasting it.

    INT. CONVENT STAIRS

ADRIANA, a blond curly haired, young, good looking orphan, aspirant to be a nun, was sleeping in a white cotton gown; the lightning strikes and wakes her and she descends the stairs to the first floor.

Only her scared face is seen, something has happened, then she hears a deaf scream coming from the hallway and sticking to the wall carefully, she gets to the last step.

Taking a deep breath, she carefully approaches the lobby. A CRACKING sound is heard simultaneously as she looks at the:

    ENTRANCE

The Main door shuts and opens repeatedly, hitting against the walls, propelled by the strong wind. ZANE, a corrupt cop dressed as a monk, wearing a hood over his head; can be seen in the lobby, holding a nun by the neck.

His partner TORRENCE, who is also a cop, stands behind him aiming his gun at someone else in the room, a priest; he laid on the floor barely breathing, in a pool of his own blood.

Zane had broken the nun's neck with a quick movement, as he releases her, her body falls to the ground making a dull sound, landing next to the priest.

A lightning strike reveals Zane's face. Adriana is frozen scared; in shock and surprise she quickly covers her mouth.

Zane hears a noise coming from the hallway; he glances and notices Adriana standing by the stairs, when she sees him staring back at her she hides behind the wall that supports the stairs.

Zane draws his gun, a magnum 45, points it towards the direction of Adriana and in an attempt to convince her to show herself, he speaks.

    ZANE

Hey, come out with your hands

    up or I'll shoot.

She runs up the stairs and Zane looks at his partner.

    ZANE

Secure the area and hide the

    money, I'll go after her.

    TORRENCE

    Done.

SERIES OF SHOTS - SECOND FLOOR

    A. Adriana runs desperately down the hallway, in the middle of the hall laid a dead man, she stops a few steps away from him.

    B. She fears to get closer. Opening the first door to her left, she discovers dismembered body parts all over the floor, she screams, horrified.

    STAIRS

    C. Zane stops for a second when he hears the scream and looks up aiming with his gun.

    HALLWAY

    D. Adriana leaves the door open and runs to the next one. She avoids getting closer to the body on the hallway, just to discover another body decapitated on the bed beyond the second door.

    E. She had not entered the room, yet she stood in shock, witnessing what laid beyond the door. Zane approaches the hallway and as he see Adriana, screams to her.

    ZANE

    Freeze.

    F. Frightened by the bodies and Zane, she overpasses the corpse that stood the middle of the hallway. She runs and enters her room, number six to the right.

    G. Zane shoots his gun and misses, dust came out from the portion on the wall where it received the bullet's blow.

    ROOM

    H. Once inside, she locks the door and walks towards a small desk located next to the bed and takes a necklace with a small crucifix attached.

    I. Then she goes to a window next to the bed and as she opens it, she looks at the door, thinking, for just a second.

    J. Zane notices the numerous bodies that laid on the floor as he headed towards Adriana's room, not paying much attention to them, he continues. Once he reaches her bedroom's front door, he reclines against the wall and he begins to speak out loud.

    ZANE

I will not harm you if you

    come out quietly.

    K. Since there is no answer from Adriana, he kicks the door down, smashing its lock to pieces and he breaks into the room.

    AT THE ROOM

    L. The room is empty and a sliding glass window, that faces the courtyard, is opened.

    ZANE

    Shit.

    M. Zane approaches the window; he sticks his head out to see Adriana running towards the woods from the courtyard.

    N. He shoots twice but misses; he smashes the window in anger with a single punch, cutting his knuckles.

    ZANE

    Fucking nun.

    O. He pulls out the monk clothes he was wearing; he throws it on the ground in anger and kicks it to the side.

    P. Now showing the SWAT uniform he was wearing underneath; he then replaces his gun on his belt and begins to slide down the drain pipe to the first floor.

    END OF SERIES OF SHOTS

EXT. COURTYARD - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

Once he reaches the floor from sliding down the pipe, he pulls out his gun once again along with a flashlight, he then follows the poor girl's trail through the muddy, dampened soil to the:

    WOODS - SAME

The visibility was nearly zero, as she runs; the rain begins to fall even harder, she wipes the rain drops from her eyes. While looking back to see if she had lost him, she trips on something.

She falls down, hitting her head against a mossy rock, losing her consciousness for a moment.

Zane losses track of her; he looks around everywhere but does not see her. Adriana is still on the floor unconscious, behind a dead tree which laid on the ground.

He does not give up, but losing his patience he tries to use reverse psychology while continuing with his search for her.

    ZANE

Hey, I'm sorry if I scared

you, I meant no harm to you.

    Just come out, let's talk.

    Adriana does
