Sherry Gloag

Best-selling author Sherry Gloag writes romances that stay with you long after you put her books down. One day, when stuck on completing a scene in her debut novel, The Brat, published by The Wild Rose Press, she opened a clean page and started 'freewriting'. She didn't sort of the errant scene, but she did write her first, published, 1k short story. She's had six more published since then. With eight published books under her belt and another due out in late 2013 Sherry is already working on her next novel. Each week, on her blog, along with a group of other talented authors she offers a free read under the umbrella heading of Tuesday's Tales. Sherry Gloag describes herself as a 'displaced' Scot living in the beautifly rural English county of Norfolk, where she enjoys talking with her characters while walking the area she calls 'her extended back garde'. But she does check to see if there's anyone e;se around before she gets involved with her characters. When she's not writing, Sherry enjoys reading, gardening and craftwork, to name a few of her hobbies. Her preference is for quiet when writing, but will occasionally use music to help set a mood if it is being elusive. Sherry Gloag loves hearing from her readers, sherrygloag@gmail.com You can find my books --> http://tinyurl.com/4qqnpck, http://tinyurl.com/4eog6cs, http://tinyurl.com/4dkmlh7, http://tinyurl.com/4jc42gf, http://tinyurl.com/4wy9hds, http://tinyurl.com/6bnvspc, http://tinyurl.com/5tj9zcc

    Prologue

Cupid X, Senior Cupid Extraordinaire, studied the five cadets standing at attention in front of him.

You will be assessed for promotion to Full Cupid by a Valentine’s Day challenge, he informed them. The Cupid who is successful in pairing off the most unlikely couple will not only earn full status, he will gain a position as my personal assistant, a fast track career move toward becoming a Senior Cupid.

All five shiny, red-cheeked faces glowed with excitement. Their wings beat faster, and more than one chest puffed up with determination. Cupid X hid his smile behind the clipboard in his hands.

"You have until midnight on Valentine’s Day to finish this assignment. I will expect all reports on my desk no later than five p.m. on February fifteenth.

    Official Report: Date: 15th February.

Report Initiated by: Cupid X - CEO European Sector.

Project 2011 Objective: To match Subject 1 -Tina Blackberry, Headmistress, with Subject 2 -Sam Brown, English teacher.

Unforeseen element: The arrival of subject 3 - Ryan Thomas.

    Report:

Every so often there are days that start badly, and continue to go downhill. Today is one of those days.

I often think humans assume Cupid’s life is one big laugh. Well, I’m here to tell everyone it’s not.

I’m supposed to shoot arrows at the good folk down on Earth so people will find their true love. But, as I said, today started out badly and went downhill faster than an avalanche.

Target Ms. Blackberry, she’s the headmistress at this elite co-ed school in the south of England. Sitting at her desk all day, she’d be an easy target.

And her soul-mate? Sam Brown, the English teacher. They were together in her office, when I aimed my bow. I mean, I had the arrow sighted on Sam’s heart, and what happens? This stranger storms into the Blackberry’s office and walks right in front of Sam just as I let my arrow fly… and I hit the wrong target.

The guy was as mad as a hornet before my arrow hit, but boy, did he blow right after. I thought he’d take off into the stratosphere.

You can imagine the idea of returning to headquarters didn’t appeal, but hanging around that office, as I’m meant to, appealed even less. Believe me I skedaddled as fast as my tiny wings would carry me. But it all worked out in the end right?

    Chapter One

    January 10, 2011

I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. Tina Blackberry sighed. Nobody said being headmistress of the elite private school was an easy task. And if the first day of term indicated the direction of the next few weeks, this Spring Term promised to be a doozie.

This is going to come back and bite you. Helen perched on the edge of her boss and friend’s desk.

I know, but what else can I do? We banned knives and similar objects from school five years ago. By bringing her father’s trophy arrow in to show her classmates, Sheila Thomas broke the rules. The thing’s worth a fortune. Did you see the description in the gallery brochure I brought back? Pure gold! Not one of those gold-plated items you’d find at Tiffany’s. A one-term expulsion is the minimum penalty I can administer. Given her history, she’s lucky I don’t throw the book at her. After placing the offending golden arrow on top of an art gallery’s glossy brochure in the bottom drawer of her desk, Tina banged it shut. The alternative is crossing every other parent who sends their child here.

True, but I’d hate to cross her father.

As I said, Tina sighed, the girl has put me between a rock and a hard place. What would you do?

Resign! Helen’s gurgle of laughter died, and her eyes sobered. Seriously, what will you do if he insists you reinstate his daughter? If you don’t, he’s going to demand your dismissal instead. Have you considered the implications? Helen
