About this ebook

Poison the Well is the story about the simplicity of the recovery and use of WWII unguarded US chemical weapons, buried in the shallow waters off Waikiki beach, that kill 30 Million Americans. The deaths are mostly the elderly, which provides for money that no longer is needed for Medicare. This funds a high-tech anti-terrorism task force, the results of which surprise the entire world.

    Prologue

Nuclear fuel, nuclear materials, and nuclear waste are all followed very closely by the world watch dogs, but left over chemical weapons from previous wars is all around us on every continent, is unguarded and very accessible. This is the story of how a couple of young home grown Jihadist’s acquire enough of these left over poisons to kill on mass in 6 US metropolitan areas; Los Angles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Washington D.C., simultaneously.

At the end of WWII there was enough Mustard gas to kill all of the people on the planet at least 1000 times over. All combatants agreed to bury their stock piles at sea as it was understood that as long as these stores remain in salt or even brackish water, they would remain inert and therefore harmless. The German stockpile of Mustard gas was deposited in the Baltic Sea off the isle of Barnholm at about 5 fathoms. The largest US supply was sunk off the shores of Oahu Hawaii, specifically Waikiki beach in about 50 feet of water. The Japanese and Chinese stockpiles were sunk off Kobe Japan in about 35 Fathoms. The Australians who had one of the world’s largest stock plies of Mustard gas at the end of the war sank all of it off the isle of Tasmania in about 50 fathoms.

Although the munitions vary in caliber and weight, the Mustard gas shells all contain approximately 1 kilo of poison, are assembled in a remarkably similar fashion, and are all marked with the telltale double yellow stripe. The shells payload is accessed by unscrewing the head of the shell in a counter clockwise direction. Once removed, a metal jacket, almost like a coffee tin can be seen and removed from the cavity of the shell. This tin contains 1 kilo of raw munitions grade Mustard gas, a vesicant agent. These are so-called blistering agents as they turn human tissue of all sorts into hemorrhaging masses. Used as an aerosol (shell would be launched and exploded over the battlefield) in WWI, the objective was to contaminate the air so that when ingested into the lungs, the enemy would begin to hemorrhage and death would be assured. It was very effective.

Mass destruction of infidels is the life objective of every single Jihadist. Nuclear attack via a bomb has always been the desired technique, the Holy Grail of terrorism, until now. Poisoning the water supply of major metropolitan regions is much easier, much harder to detect during the planning and even at the execution stage of the operation.

This story finds two Jihadie with the time, the knowledge and the desire to take these ‘blistering agents’ and inject them into the water supplies and thereby, Poisoning the Well.

    Part One–Planning & Positioning

    Developing the Plan

During a calm spring afternoon, while sailing in the harbor of Aden, Jimmy says to Sam, ‘We need to show leadership that we are serious and can contribute to the cause.’ After a few minutes pass he continues, ‘These old Jihadist’s are obsessed with obtaining a nuclear device, but they don’t fully realize how long it will take, how expensive it will be and most importantly, how the world is focused upon the control of all of the material necessary to make and deliver a bomb. This focus makes the whole process less likely to materialize in the short or even the long term.’ The wind picks up and begins to fill their sail, which looks more like a diaper attached to a shoebox than a sail. As they continue to make their way across the harbor, Sam says ‘Right over there is where our brave martyrs died’, he of course is referring to the attack upon the USS Cole which was moored at the Aden harbor in 2002. ‘This was a great success for the cause.’ Jimmy snaps back and says ‘Yes it was, but this is the problem, leadership is thinking either very small or very large. The very small events such as the Cole don’t destroy the infidel as we are commanded and the very large events such as detonating a nuclear device are unobtainable. We need an obtainable event that destroys millions of infidels, which will go undetected until it is too late for them to seek mercy.’ Sam who is the sailor and the skipper sees that the boat is now close to the landing where they have been headed, and as with all sail boat landings the immediate task at hand requires that this conversation be continued later.

After securing the boat the friends and Morgan, the ever present parrot companion of Sam head for a local side walk café and continue to enjoy this early spring day by ordering a coffee and watching their world go by. Although they believe that their appearance is that of seasoned Jihadist’s, scruffy beards, local headwear and long local dress, they look like a pair of trick-or-treaters, at least to the locals. Despite wearing the local futah, which is more like a sarong than the long shirt worn in some mid-east countries, and carrying a jambiya, which is a ceremonial dagger worn in the front of the futah, like a Hells Angel member wears a Harley Davidson belt buckle, they can still be picked out of a crowd for who they are and more importantly, where they are from. This is because their contact in Aden, Naballah has provided them with all of their clothing as well as their place to live. Neither Sam nor Jimmy, both of whom are from Michigan, realize that from their head to their toes, each piece of clothing in this Bedouin society marks a person from who his parents were to the tribe that he belongs to, and their clothing said the trick-or-treater tribe. The café is quiet and they find themselves out of earshot of everyone else, a result of their appearance, their lack of a command of Arabic and the suspicion that they are still under. Morgan is on the ground pecking away at an old tin can. Pecking at things is a behavior that he can never seem to stop doing.

Jimmy continues the conversation that began while in the boat by stating ‘I have such an idea.’ After taking a sip from his coffee Sam says ‘what are you saying, what idea?’ ‘You know’ he begins ‘Too small or too unobtainable.’ Sam then shakes his head, ‘Even before we joined the cause, while we were still in Dearborn, you have been dreaming about the big one and yet nothing has ever come from the many ideas that I have had to listen to, but for the sake of Allah, please tell me your latest, as I enjoy this god given day of beauty.’

When Jimmy begins to speak, Sam recalls how the grade school buddies and best friends had stayed in touch after high school, with Jimmy entering the University of Michigan and himself living in his parent’s basement doing nothing but odd jobs and getting in trouble with the law. Both were avid computer gamers and kept in contact over the web playing the latest games while Jimmy was in school and even after he graduated with a degree in communications and left for Chicago to get a job at an advertising agency on Michigan Avenue. Both were quite computer literate, as were many of their Dearborn peers. This generation did not get information, ideas or other intellectual stimulation from television, newspapers, books or magazines, but rather relied exclusively on the web as the soul source of information, wisdom and most of all religious inspiration. When Jimmy’s job and romance ended, and Sam’s entanglements with the law became more severe, the web presented at first a rather radicalized Islamic message, but as their lives continued to deteriorate, the message became more and more convincing. The message became crystal clear; Jihad is where they both belonged. Jihad in Yemen, with an American cleric named Anwar Al Alwaki.

Jimmy begins, ‘It starts with WWI’, now Sam looks up from his coffee and not only shakes his head but begins to a flash a smile of condescension, ‘and continues to the end of WWII. If we took 2 kilos of a vesicant, mustard gas, and placed it in the water of New York City, we could kill 25 million infidels in 3 days.’ Suddenly Sam changes his gaze from across the street where the three European women tourists who are fondling the Original Yemeni Trinkets are also enjoying their spring afternoon, back to Jimmy. He specifically hears, ‘could kill 25 million infidels,’ and this piques his interest. Sam became a Jihadist for the glory and infamy that accompanied this type of life. ‘O.K., but where are we going to get 2 kilos of mustard gas?’ Jimmy continues, ‘At the end of WWII all of the combatants did not destroy their stock plies of mustard gas but rather buried their chemical weapon munitions at sea. The Germans buried theirs in the Baltic Sea, the Americans buried theirs off of Hawaii and the Japanese did so off Kobe harbor while the Aussies, who by the way had the largest supply, deposited theirs off Tasmania.’ He goes on, ‘Even more interesting is that in the Baltic, the shells are at about 5 fathoms (30ft) and in Hawaii they are located right off of Waikiki in about 8 fathoms (45Ft). Both the Germans and the US governments have marked by GPS exactly where the stockpiles are and are completely unsecured. Nobody but nobody is guarding this stuff.’ Now Sam is very attentive and begins to ask more questions. ‘So if the stuff is buried in water, why will it kill 25 million infidels when we place it in water? Haven’t the Germans and the US figured out that over time these things will decay and begin to leak with the result being that the entire oceans will be dead?’ Jimmy says, ‘The clever infidels found out that even if the shells leak, that vesicants become inert while in salt or even brackish water, but if they burned them, or had some other above ground method of destruction, that there was a good chance that the chemicals would get into the atmosphere. Interestingly, if the vesicants are put in fresh water, they simply are diluted but remain just as powerful, without smell or any other trace of a presence. This is why I say it will take 3 days to kill 25 million infidels, god willing, as it will take several doses of the material to kill.’ Morgan then says, ‘Allah Akbar, Death to America.’

Sam has become transfixed on Jimmy and has completely forgotten about the European females and his coffee! ‘So you’re saying that all we have to do is dive down 5 fathoms at the most, recover this material, and place it into a water system?’ ‘Yes’ says Jimmy with an enormous smile of confidence. ‘Wow, why hasn’t anyone else done this?’ asks the curious Sam. ‘Recall the attempt by our brother Zazi to bomb the NYC sub way? He was stopped because the top cop in NYC, Kelly and the FBI, were able to keep an eye on the chemicals needed to build a bomb. The tri-state area has been the focus of many attempts like that and like the Times Square bombing, but it seems as though as soon as an attempt is made to accumulate the material that the NYPD or the FBI is all over the plan’ says Jimmy. ‘Chemicals of the nature that will kill are watched and guarded world wide, but not the disposed chemical weapons from previous wars. But to answer your question, the main reason that this has not been done before is that the senior Al-Qaeda leadership has been reluctant to poison the water. Morgan then says, ‘Poison the Well, Poison the Well.’ They think that too many dead Americans is a problem, but the new leadership, Anwar al Awalaki, our cleric here in Yemen is not afraid. The other aspect is that the Department of Homeland Security published a report that has confirmed the notion of the American complacency toward a WMD attack since 9/11. There was this commission, the prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism that came to the conclusion that both the administration and congress would get a failing grade on preparedness. We can kill a lot of infidels with this one, and leave their entire society in mass confusion and economic collapse! To me, the vesicant route is much simpler and more effective, with little or no cost. God sent!’, ‘All praise to Allah!’ they both say, and Morgan says ‘Allah Akbar.’

It is now getting late and dusk is beginning to fill the streets of Aden and the two friends decide to meet after evening prayers to explore this idea further.

During Sam’s attendance at his mosque he begins to think about the logistics of carrying out the plan explained by Jimmy, especially the part about the location of the material. Although raised in Detroit and having spent sometime sailing in the Great Lakes, he never has been at sea. Ever since a very young boy he has always wanted to make a transoceanic deep blue water sail. If they went to Hawaii to gather the mustard gas, he could do this. He started to imagine weeks at sea, eating fresh fish everyday, the rock and roll of sailing, and the wind as his friend. He even thought about the perfect boat for his dream, a Morgan 50. He had seen such a boat one summer while at the Detroit Yacht club. His mother used to clean the restrooms at the club and he would go with mom from time to time and help her clean. One day while at the club he decided to walk out on G pier and there she was, a brand new 50 foot Morgan, in all of her glory. He stopped and gazed, and did so in such a way that he was mesmerized until Mr. Duafenbach interrupted and said, ‘She is a beauty isn’t she?’ to Sam who was about 8 years old at the time. ‘Yes sir’ the little boy said. ‘Would you like to come aboard?’ states the proud owner, who was dying to show the brand spanking new boat to anyone who was the least bit interested. ‘WOULD I!!! WOULD I!!!’ explained Sam.

Little Sam did not realize but this began his sailing career and would change his life. After a tour of the boat Mr. Duafenbach asked the little boy if he would like to go sailing some day and Sam said that he would have to ask his parents but would be back next Saturday and would then tell Mr. Duafenbach if it was O.K. Mr. Duafenbach said, ‘Well, let’s plan on it and if your parents object then we won’t go. How’s that?’ Next he reached into his wallet and pulled out a card and gave it to Sam and said, ‘If your father or mother wants to know more about me or about the sail have them call me during the week at work.’ Sam reverently placed the card into his left front pants pocket and thanked Mr. D, who told Sam that he preferred to be called Mr.D.

As he sat in the mosque he continued to remember his sailing days on the great lakes with Mr. D. and Morgan. That very next Saturday is when Sam first met Morgan the Parrot, who at the time was about 10 years old, a relative youngster for parrots, as some lived as long as 100 years. He recalled how he first leaned how to trim a sail, or the first time Mr. D. told him that Sam was going to do the fore-deck in the Detroit Yacht club annual race day for the Old & Tired. This was a position on a boat only granted by the skipper to the most trusted and qualified of the crew. How later Mr. D. introduced Sam to small boat racing, which is what Mr. D. really enjoyed, but as president of General Motors he could not be seen simply sailing a small boat and had to own a large expensive yacht. And a Morgan said ‘Large expensive yacht’ like no other boat could. Mr. D. could have bought any expensive sailboat, but once he discovered that there was such a boat built by Morgan boat works and called a Morgan, he had to buy one.

When Sam was fairly new to sailing Mr. D. told Sam why he owned a sailboat named Morgan and why he named his parrot Morgan. On a summer day while sailing it was unusually hot, even by Detroit standards and Mr. D removed his shirt to display a necklace with a huge medallion attached to it. Sam could not resist commenting on it. Mr. D then explained that the medallion was a silver dollar, but not just any silver dollar; this was a 1921 Morgan silver dollar. Mr. D’s grandfather was Elliot Morgan, the man who engraved the plates for the mint that stuck these silver dollars and more importantly, raised Mr. D after his father died very young. Sam finally understood the connection of the Morgan name to Mr. Ds life. By the time Sam had entered high school he had become quite an accomplished sailor and yachtsman, including a skillful Boatwright, due to Mr. D’s tutelage and Sam’s high level of interest in boat repair.

When prayers ended, Jimmy and Sam meet at Jimmy’s apartment and immediately Jimmy produces a stack of tattered notes that he had obviously been working on for some time. ‘Here are the logistics for the operation if we go to the Baltic, these if we go to Japan, these if we go to Tasmania and these if we go to Hawaii.’ Sam states that he is only interested in going to Hawaii as this will maximize his deep blue water transoceanic voyage. ‘Hawaii does have some interesting and enjoyable parts, and it offers the largest kill of infidels due to the abundance of MG available to us off of Waikiki beach. We can salvage enough MG in one afternoon to contaminate 6 cities water supplies, far more than any other of the plans. I like Hawaii myself.

First we need 4 other men who can travel in the US without being noticed, like you and me. I don’t think that this will be much of a problem as both the Muslim Arab Association in Florida and Hamas of the US have plenty of capable volunteers. The Florida group will likely have some who already know how to sail and dive. This mission will be particularity attractive to our American Jihadist’s brothers since this is not a martyr operation. I have seen the statement online, ’I am willing to kill for Islam but not die for Islam’ many times.’ Sam then says, ’Ever since the Fort Hood killings, the number of homegrown members has been much easier to come by. Remember that guy in New York, the Times Square Bomber, what was his name?, ... like Shazzam? , but not Shazzam. Then how about those 5 guys who went to Pakistan. Remember, they were on their way to the Waziristan tribal terrorist training region when they were picked up, and Alessa and Almonte, who were about to leave the US and head for training.’

Jimmy continues, ‘Next we need to secure an ocean going sailboat that has the profile of a casual racing yacht. The Hawaii plan calls for using a sailboat race as the cover to enter the US.’ Sam interrupts and says,’ I have thought about this already and think I have an idea for the perfect vessel.’ ‘Good’ says Jimmy, ‘Of the 6 of us, 2 of us must be able to dive to at least 6 fathoms. We will need documents to include passports, credit cards and driver licenses, plus some American dollars. We must have US passports that are not in our names. We can easily find the water utility information on the web for each of the target cities, as they all are very proud of them. The targets that I have identified for the Hawaii plan include Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Washington D. C. Fortunately all have detailed web sites describing how their water systems work and clearly where they would be most vulnerable to our inserting the MG. After the attack, which will be coordinated for the same day at the same time, regardless of the time zone, we will then catch planes for London and a new life in Europe. We will have plenty of time to leave as it will take about 2 to 3 days for the effects to be felt from the day of the insertion. The L.A and Dallas pair will meet in Phoenix and travel to Seoul,
