About this ebook

Hopefully, the one day layover in LA would cut the jet lag of the Hawaii-to-Maine trip. Just time enough for Josh and Dana to get some rest, a little exercise and, maybe, save a life.

At 72, Alex's wife said 'Why not try writing?' Within 4 months he had six novellas on Smashwords and now, a couple of years later, 18. Obviously there was stuff lurking in there waiting to be said. Alex's wife is also his muse and editor, and a good one. They live in St. Petersburg, FL where there is a surprising amount of writerly activity.

Water Taxi a short story by Alex Wilson

Why do I torture myself like this? Lovely water. A premier collection of craft. Almost constant good weather. But, here I am like a Cub Scout in a harem. It is all so near yet so far.

Who am I kidding? I can look but I can’t touch. And, I can’t even be here to lust after another month and a half. I’m just playing ‘gosh-I-wish’ when the reality is that I have destroyed any chance of getting back in the saddle. They don’t call them ‘burnt bridges’ for nothing. My stupid mistakes and stupid behavior has put me in this hole. I’m not blaming anyone else. It’s a hole I richly deserve but there is no way out I can see.

I have plenty of time when the taxi riders are thin to polish ‘Plan B’. It won’t be that hard. I can see which boats are static and which are used. With this water taxi, I have easy access to whichever craft I choose and can be out beyond the breakwater before anyone even notices. They can pick it up out at sea when I’m through with it. I won’t harm the craft. The owner will get it back in good condition. A victimless crime.

Maui had been a nice change of pace for Josh and Dana. Not the same as it would have been as a winter escape from their home
