Ugh, why? Why do we love this fictional character so much? Easy, thought Alex, as she tossed Pride and Prejudice down beside her on the toasty bed sheets. We love him because he’s unbelievably rich, handsome, and has the power to come into your life and sweep you into a whole new world. But the real reason is, while coming off as arrogant and insulting and unattainable, he’s actually turns out to be quite humble and heroic in his love for Lizzie. Her harsh words about him and his behavior affected him to the core. And, after some major self-reflection, he’s revealed to be a decent sort of human being and earnest in his love. Worthy. What woman could resist that? Really? No one. That’s what made her swoon every damn time she read the book.
