Preface
ONE OF THE HUMBLE AIMS of this book is to enchantingly introduce one interesting aspect in Rizal’s life, that is, his so-called love life.
Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero who is a very controversial subject in history, is undeniably an item of the past already. Nevertheless, the known information about his life, works, and writings—which can be read and gleaned through preserved documents, ‘relics,’ and artifacts—can be entertainingly significant even to present generation.
This book on Rizal’s fascinating love stories possesses the following distinctive features:
1. Includes new researches
In light of recent findings, this book, for instance, discusses what happened to Rizal’s ex-girlfriends and common-law wife after his martyrdom.
2. Clarifies some controversies and discrepancies
Many sections deal with historical controversies like whether or not Josephine Bracken re-married another Filipino and returned to the Philippines some years after Rizal’s death.
3. Uses blog and feature-article format
To be appealing to young generations, most parts somewhat deviate from the traditional too formal (like straight news) style. Instead, they are written the way blogs and online articles are.
4. With analyses, comments, and applications
Whenever appropriate and needed, significant remarks and relevant supplemental information are embedded in the lectures. Some parts also state the relevance, value, and applicability of the topics to our lives.

HE COULD HAVE BEEN A BLOGGER if he were alive today—and probably a chronic and very active one for that matter.
Dr. Jose Rizal (1861-1896), the considered Philippine national hero, was a diligent diary keeper. He actively kept correspondence with his family members and international friends, updating them with his ‘status’ and informing them of
