About the Author
INTRODUCTION
Being in the game of public speaking for over 20 years, I’ve seen and heard it all. When I say I’ve seen and heard it all,
I’m saying those words with 100 percent certainty.
I’ve seen no-name
speakers who are off the charts
fantastic. I’ve seen big-name celebrity speakers who were just awful. I’ve seen big-time authors or TV personalities speak for a corporate group who couldn’t adjust and connect to the audience and fall flat on their face. I’ve seen mediocre corporate speakers who are magical in their connection, so likeable and warm, yet not bringing any value.
Becoming a great public speaker or presenter is not an easy proposition. Speaking in public and delivering a solid message is a skill-based
art form, and I’m passionate about helping people who have the desire to raise their skill levels. I’ve been coaching people on speaking and presentation skills through my Speakers Academies for over 12 years, whether being hired by companies to improve their sales or leadership teams or hired individually by those who are committed to excel. People not only grow with confidence when they learn the proper fundamentals and raise their effectiveness at delivering a message, they also advance in their careers. Having the ability to deliver a message in a public speaking format is a separator. It separates the great communicators from the amateurs.
Like anything else, to be great you must have the proper fundamentals. Speaking is an art form, yet it’s skill-based art. If a person starts with incorrect fundamentals, their development will reach a point where they are not making progress and they will never reach their true potential.
It would be similar to playing golf and never receiving a lesson from a professional. You may hit the ball where you want it to go on occasion, yet your rounds of golf will be filled with frustration while being stuck in a quagmire of mediocrity, and you still don’t know what you don’t know. You don’t know what you are doing wrong, or for that matter, what you are doing right. If you learn the proper fundamentals of golf, and with consistent practice, you will have the potential to build and improve your skill-set.
That’s my analogy for the skill of public speaking—Golf. Without the proper fundamentals, you’ll be a hacker for life.
The tagline of this book is …from someone who actually does it.
That’s important for you to know, as there are
