Tut's Childhood
About 3,370 years ago, King Akhentaten was the ruler of Egypt. His wife was Queen Nefertiti.
When they had been king and queen for several years, King Tut was born. His full name was Tutankhaten (Tut for short).
Some people thought that King Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye were Tut's mother and father. But scientists have tested King Tut’s genes. They now say that Amenhotep III was Tut’s grandfather. His father was Akhenaten. No one knows the name of Akhenaten’s wife, but testing on her genes shows that she was probably Akhenaten’s sister.
It might seem strange that a man would marry his sister, but this happened a lot back then, especially among people who were royal.
