    Chapter One

She swerved the SUV and turned off the main road unto a residential street lined with oak trees. There were about a dozen or so houses on each side with two lanes for traffic. Jennifer had never been here before but she stopped the car near one of the huge oaks and rested her head on the back of her hands on the steering wheel.

She just knew it was a bad idea. There was no way she could go through with something like that. Sharon had said it would be easy, but Sharon had no idea how hard it was. Sharon was not the one who was overcome by fear, she wouldn't understand how scared Jennifer was as she sat in her car shaking like a leaf. A knock on her car window startled her and Jennifer quickly composed herself and wound the glass down.

Yes? she queried of the man in the baseball cap who stood there glaring at her.

Your car is blocking my driveway, he stated and his eyes soften a bit as they made contact with hers. He nodded in the direction of a huge blue and white house.

I am sorry, I didn't realize.....I'm leaving anyway, Jennifer apologized and she started her engine. She turned and smiled at the stranger whose Porsche was sitting in the driveway awaiting its owner.

Jennifer backed away from the driveway and paused to let him pass further down the street making sure she was not blocking another drive. The Porsche sped by and she saw the man turn his head to look at her while a woman old enough to be his mother, fixed her lipstick in the mirror.

She turned the vehicle and drove out of the neighborhood and back unto the main thoroughfare. As she approached the huge three story brick building her heart gave such a lurch she almost let go of the steering wheel. Jennifer was not ready so she drove past and headed home.

The phone was ringing insistently and Jennifer was in no mood to rush for it. She locked the car and entered the kitchen from the adjoining garage door. Pouring a glass of juice, she kicked off her shoes and opened the back porch door where she sat on her wicker chair and sipped the ice cold orange juice.

It was the end of summer and the beginning of fall but the air was still a bit warm. She prayed for the cooler temperatures of fall. It never snowed in her neck of the woods but it could get pretty cool around winter time and she loved it. She sipped her juiced and placed the glass at her cheeks to help keep her cool. She was feeling kind of flushed, was it due to the heat or the prospect of visiting that place her friend told her about? She couldn't tell.

The cell phone started ringing and she also ignored it for she knew that Sharon was trying to get a hold of her. She decided that she would call back when she pleased but right now she wanted to be alone.

It was an hour later when she retrieved the cell phone from her purse and saw that the call was from her ex, Robert. She erased the message he left without listening to it. The phone rang again and without thinking she answered.

Jennifer, where are you? It was her best friend Sharon.

I'm home, she answered a little warily.

I called the place and Lily told me you hadn't showed up. Is something wrong? Jennifer could hear the concern in her friend's voice and felt really guilty.

I just couldn't go through with it, you know, I don't think I am ready.

When will you be ready Jen? It's been six months and you have not done anything to make yourself feel better. You can't stay at home feeling sorry for yourself....

    But Sharon, I.....

I am not done, Do you think Robert is sitting at home moping and crying? NO, he is out partying and fucking his mistress!

That was cruel Sharon, you don't have to be so harsh, Jennifer replied, a bit hurt as the truth stung.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so cruel. I just hate seeing you not being your usual fun, sexy self. I'll be there in a few minutes, with that she hung up before Jennifer could reply.

Sharon showed up in less than twenty minutes where she explained that The House of Desire was very classy and you didn't have to do anything you didn't want to do.

It's a place where people hang out and explore their fantasies, get their groove back or just plain have fun. People go there to get over their phobias as well. Just hang out in the lounge, take a look around and if you don't like it you leave.

Come with me. I promise I'll go in this time and have a look, Jennifer agreed.

The two friends spent the rest of the afternoon talking, sipping wine and enjoying each other's company. Sharon made the appointment for the following day at eleven in the morning.

There were couples lounging on the sofas and a large bed in the middle of the main room. They were fully clothed but they were so intimate looking that Jennifer felt like an intruder.

Sharon had gone off with a beautiful brunette. She always knew her friend was a little freaky so it was no surprise that she would be with a woman, she herself often wondered what it was like. It was while thinking about Sharon and her female mate that she saw him. She recognized the baseball cap. It was like yesterday all over again and she was half expecting him to knock on her car window.

Jennifer quickly averted her eyes and walked over to the bar. There he stood, looking quite bored. Apparently he had no female partner or was not interested in any for he leaned against the wall and gazed around the room with a cynical look on his face. Jennifer wondered what he was doing here. Maybe he works here, she thought, or just delivering something. Then she though better, he couldn't be a delivery guy, he drives a Porsche!

She ordered a martini, dry, and as she reached to take it from the bartender she felt the presence of someone and turned to see him staring down at her.

Have we met? he asked, his blue eyes, or were they green, were twinkling.

Jennifer was of two minds to remind him about the driveway incident but since he didn't remember, why should she?

No, I don't think so, she lied and took a sip of her drink.

I have seen you before......ahhhh, yes, you blocked me yesterday!

Oh, that, I am really sorry......... she began but was interrupted by someone calling
