Running With the Bulls

Something was happening.

Julia Dorne chewed on a mouthful of grass while she watched the commotion outside her paddock. Twenty or more men were gathered in the far yard. All dressed in white uniforms, they mulled around a giant, black moving truck that had just pulled up at the end of the driveway.

I want three teams of five men each, Lord Ashe told the gathered assembly. Each team will be responsible for only one bull. One man will open the doors. The other men will escort the bull to his new cell. Those not assigned to a specific team will stand at the ready to be of assistance as needed. Am I understood?

Almost as one, the men nodded.

Julia edged closer to her paddock’s fence. None of the other cows seemed to care, but she was more than a little interested in seeing what one of these bulls looked like.

They’re probably just men, she thought. After all, every one of the cows she grazed beside was nothing more than a woman like her.

If I am still a woman.
