About this ebook

Sometimes life appears to fall to pieces and can seem irreparable. We've all had our fair share of disappointments, losses, and hardships. But for every challenge there is a breathtaking promise: It's going to be okay. How can we know? Because God so loved the world.

In 3:16, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado encourages us to study closely the "Hope Diamond of the Bible": John 3:16.

Max says of his favorite verse, "Every time I recall these words, they are fresh and as stunning as my first encounter with them. The mind-bending awareness of God's limitless love, his incalculable sacrifice, and the priceless teaching at the core. How can we not review it again and again? I want this generation, and all who come after, to look closely at the key promise of God and choose the gift beyond all gifts."

Throughout 3:16, Max will invite you to:

  • Stand in awe of how deep, wide, long, and high God's love is for you
  • Understand more fully the living hope you have through Jesus' death and resurrection
  • Rest in the assurance that salvation is a gift from God, not something you can earn

If you know nothing of the Bible, start here. John 3:16 invites you to know God's love deeply and intimately. And once you accept God's love, your life will never be the same.

If you know everything in the Bible, return here. Let John 3:16 become the banner of your life, so much so that the message of God's unending and unbending love overflows from you to others.

Each copy of 3:16 also includes a 40-day devotional designed to help you draw closer to your loving Savior.

Lucado's writing doesn't impress, and his treatment of the text is hardly expositional. There's no heresy here, but nothing profound, either.

This is an excellent presentation of the Gospel. I would highly recommend giving this book to anyone who is seeking to know God.

A single verse that means so much. It sums up God's incredible love, His incredible plan and His incredible sacrifice for us. A verse that is simple to understand, yet so filled with meaning, and so filled with HOPE. I enjoy the way Max Lucado writes. He highlights simple things that are easy to forget, reminding me of the core of my faith and my reason for hope and belief.

I definitely don't think this is Lucado's finest work. Like another reviewer said, half of the book is the actual book and the last half is a 40-day devotional. I plan to go through the devotional. However, I think this book is more suited for non-Christians who are exploring Christianity or new Christians who need to grasp the concept of what John 3:16 encompasses. A decent read with some good jewels, but not the most compelling Lucado book I've ever read.

Meh. There's nothing wrong with this book. In fact, viewed as an evangelical book for those who have little exposure to the Message, I'd bump it up to 3 1/2 or 4 stars. The main problem is that it seems like a book that has already been written thousands of times in the last 20 years, many times better. The fact that it is bumped from the 130 pages it is to over 200 pages is not a positive. This is a paper back book with a minor devotional attached. Should have looked closer at it in Barnes & Noble.
