About this ebook

An unemployed fisherman.
A pissed-off planet.
A prodigal son.
A suburban siren.
These are just some of the memorable characters you'll meet in Perversities, Alexander Douglas' first collection of short fiction. From flashes of dark brilliance to extended forays into new weird fiction, these stories run the gamut of genre, slipstreaming from horror to science fiction to romance to niches that haven't even been named yet. Alexander Douglas is the author of the forthcoming modern fairytale novel for teens and adults, The Monstrous of Cinterbough and is currently at work on its prequel.

    Indecision

In all of Grand Creation nobody had ever said gods were decisive; in fact the evidence is pretty clear to the contrary. And it's true, He had gone back and forth on the decision for what seemed like forever. On the one hand, it might help, and they were sorely in need of all the help they could get. On the other hand, He looked upon all He had wrought and what they had done to it (though privately, He admitted He had had one too many when He was setting things up)... the strife, social pestilence, graft and grief that they caused themselves and each other. Maybe He should just admit defeat and start over. The guys at the club would love that. And then He looked down at His son, who was busy building shelves for a homeless shelter, and had just the night before discovered the joys of touching himself. As an incentive, He had sent a vision of a truly heavenly hostess to make sure the kid got off to a good start. In time there would be grandchildren; that would be such a blessing and it would get the wife off his case for a while. So, it was decided. Sacrifice His only son for the shameful behavior and bad attitude of these miscreants??!! He didn't think so! His son, His son's children, and their children would lead by example. And if people didn't get it, they could go to hell.

He floats. Limbs limp and weightless. Naked as a newborn in his mother's womb. Peaceful. The water is cold, bracing against his skin. His body is alive and he can feel everything: the pressure on his ears, his hair swaying with the current, his balls cinching up for warmth between his legs. The liquid quiet amplifies his
