Chapter One
A PATROLOFFICER DIRECTS TRAFFIC IN A BUSY MEDIUM IN BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS. He pushes traffic to the left lanes a scattered debris clog a stretch of the right lane and shoulder. The bulk of debris is recognized as a flipped over cargo van which halted against a few trees. Double rows of police cruisers occupy the scene. Emergency lights blink quickly on the dash boards. FBI and ICE Agents huddle with State Patrol and Brownsville PD.
The largest illumination comes from the towering television trucks and crews.
I’m Elise Salazar reporting live from Brownsville, TX where law enforcement search for answers on a crashed cargo van carrying teenage boys and girls of different ethnicities. This all occurred after a routine traffic stop. Tune in at 8 for a full update.
A frumpy detective yells Lt. you see this? Turn to CNN.
A file drawer closes. Seconds later, a brown accordion file drops on the desk. Hold one, checking my messages. After a beep, you hear
you have reached the voice mail of Lt. Michael Grayson of the Trafficking division. A soft female voice follows, Hun, on your way home grab some milk, Nicholas is drinking us out of house and home.
The call ends and the phone settles in the cradle. Seconds later the Lt. appears leaning against the office door frame. Thanks Stu, we got that BOLO about an hour ago. It may turn out be something and the good thing is the public don’t know yet they were traffickers. Sadly, one of the kids fit the description of a missing kid up in the borough.
Stu is visibly moved and respond anybody snatch my kid, I’ll be slinging lead and dropping magazine clips.
So you assume only men abduct? Whatever happened to investigators keeping an open mind?
the Lt pokes at Stu.
Anyway
