Although born in the United States, Annamaria Bazzi spent a great deal of her childhood in Sicily, Italy, in a town called Sciacca. Italian was the language spoken at home. Therefore, she had no problems when she found herself growing up in a strange country.Upon returning to the states, she swore she would speak without an accent.She attended Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Computers with a minor in Spanish.Annamaria spent twenty years programming systems for large corporations, creating innovative solution, and addressing customer problems. During those years, she raised four daughters and one husband. Annamaria lives in Richmond Virginia with her small family where she now dedicates a good part of her day writing.

    Chapter One

    The misspelled name on the envelope glared at me. I picked it up and wondered how hard could it be to spell Mia? Nothing was simpler in my mind than to spell M I A—missing in action. After all, it was a popular military term. And then, there was Mia Farrow. Who didn’t know the ancient actress? I couldn’t help but humph for letting the typo upset me. Maybe I was too tired after a night of tossing and turning and shouldn’t let the mistake get under my skin.

    Sitting at my desk wearing my favorite fluffy slippers and with the computer booted, I took a deep breath and concentrated on the program. My fingers worked the keyboard, and the fix to the system problem was on its way out. Two day ago, the corporate system stopped adding the sales of the Kentucky stores with the total sales from around the country. I studied the logic diagram sketched out on college ruled paper and made a few code changes to impact run time. The schema looked perfect, and as I admired the flow of logic, my fingers wrapped around the pencil and stabbed the back of my other hand.

    Hard. Without a thought.
