Chapter 1

Marilyn slipped the last sheet of Christmas cookies into the oven and set the timer. Spending five hours baking cookies wouldn’t be everyone’s favorite way to spend Christmas Eve, but she loved baking her grandmother’s old recipes. Several local bakeries even featured them. It was the alone part that she minded, at least tonight. Tomorrow would make up for it. She was spending Christmas day with her parents and sisters.
