​Introduction

Are you ready for more? I’ve started many motivational speeches with this question. The answer that comes back to me from audiences large and small has always been a loud, excited Yes! They get even more excited when I get more specific:

Are you ready for more money in your bank account?

Are you ready for more love in your relationships?

Are you ready for more fulfillment from your career?

Are you ready for more health … wealth … happiness?

They sit on the edges of their seats, eagerly listening for me to tell them exactly what they need to do to live their dream lives. However, the excitement and anticipation soon fizzle a bit when I bring the focus back to the most important word in each of those questions: ready. It is at this point when I find out who is really serious about having more in their lives.

The idea of living a life of more is exhilarating. But the truth is, no matter how pumped up you might get about the possibility of having more in your life, you won’t get it if you are not truly ready. And that is true no matter what you want more of.

I am so certain of this because it is a lesson I had to learn quite some time ago. My passion in life is to inspire and equip people to live powerful, God-centered lives in a way that fulfills their highest potential and purpose. As a coach, speaker, and writer, I fulfill that purpose every day and I love it!

For a long time after I started my coaching practice, however, I found it difficult to move beyond a certain level. I had the right skills and training. My desire and willingness to work hard were strong. I spent thousands of dollars attending workshops, purchasing proven systems, and following their instructions precisely. For some reason I continued to struggle.

After all my efforts produced minimal results, I turned to incessant prayer. I begged God to grow my business. After all, I was doing what He called me to do. Shouldn’t I be able to succeed fulfilling my life’s purpose?

Finally, after some intensive soul-searching and prayer, I learned the reason I wasn’t moving beyond my condition at the time: I wasn’t truly ready yet! There were some things I still needed to clean up before I could move to the next level -- my thoughts, my finances, my social relationships, and my health, to name just a few. I realized then that it’s not just about the desire and commitment. There are some practical aspects of living a life of abundance that can still hinder you if you ignore them.
