About this ebook

Mary is a true but uncorroborated story as channeled through the writer; therefore, it must be viewed as a work of fiction.
Her husband’s brutality left Mary too damaged to survive the birth of her son. Unaware she is no longer among the living, Mary continues to care for the children of the house while she awaits her own son’s return.

It was eerily quiet and still at 2:00 a.m., the usual time Mary makes her rounds through the house. She developed the habit when William was just an infant. He would cry, as most babies do, to be fed or changed. Mary would run to the nursery and quietly watch Mildred tend to him. When Mildred placed the satisfied child back in his crib and returned to her bed, Mary crept into the room and sung him to sleep.

The nursery was empty, as were all the other rooms in the house now that Emily moved away with Megan. Not that Emily paid much attention to Mary; she mostly ignored her. Mary often played with Megan in her room when Megan was younger but Emily did not approve and insisted Megan play outside with other children.

On one occasion, Megan drew a picture of Mary, a stick figure in a long nightdress.

Look, Mommy, Megan was proud of her art work, this is Mary reading me a bed-time story.
