Eddie Montez has just moved to the desert of southern California from the city. His only friend is a frequently-injured skateboarder named Beady, who forces Eddie into one uncomfortable situation after another. Arson, hitchhiking, and shoplifting all factor into a pivotal night during which Eddie must choose the person he wants to be.

Richard A. Sanchez's work has appeared in Tin House, Storychord, and The Pacific Review. He is a graduate of the MFA program in creative writing at University of California, Riverside, and he currently works as an English and creative writing instructor. He lives with his wife and three daughters in California, where he is working on a collection of stories and a novel.
