Fantasy, and to a lesser extent Science-Fiction, have inspired me from an early age. From the late seventies to the late nineties I became heavily involved in Fantasy Role Playing and created and ran several extensive, gripping and enjoyable campaigns - some of this can be seen reflected in my novels. Me? I am a mature male, born and raised in the south of England before migrating to New Zealand in 2001. In 2020, I returned to England, after 18 years in New Zealand and Australia. My wife and sons provide a lot of inspiration and support. I write when I have time and when the inspiration takes me. I have many unfinished works, which I hope to make available in time.

You were returning by sea from a previous adventure when disaster struck. A severe storm pounded your ship, eventually driving it onto some offshore rocks where it quickly sank. Luckily, a nearby village was alerted to your plight and, with their aid, you survived the ordeal - although the captain, two of the crew and the ships cat were not so lucky.
Recovery took a week, over which time you could not fail to notice an air of doom and despondency in the village, eventually you gathered the courage to ask the local priest why. He was more than willing to share some of his troubles with you and asked if you had noticed a lack of meat in your diet since arriving at Endelst (the village) you had and say so. He then tells you the following:
Here on the mainland, we rely on a small but dedicated band of trappers - who live in the northern wastes of Elartris - for our supplies of meat, due to the nature of supply it was never a regular trade but it sufficed for our needs. For the last three months we have received no meat whatsoever, I try to supply some substitute with the aid of my deity but it is poor substitute for true meat and nowhere near enough for our needs
.
Tales gathered from travelers and wayfarers suggest that the trapper community has been attacked by a large band of fur clad goblins of immense might and that there were no known survivors. One of the travelers handed over a worn scrap of parchment he had found at one of the desecrated villages
.
The parchment had upon it, in old and fading ink, in an ancient elven dialect, the words:
Beware the bane found in deep,
in hell-hole cold, in arctic stronghold,
in winged peak stark, it's life in dark,
evil to spread, never to tread,
lay open the hearts of men, evil to sow in deep then,
all to trap, and soon mayhap,
walls will not contain, Thuradra's bane.....
Our local sage has speculated that the goblin horde must have uncovered and reawoken this foul relic and quickly fallen under its spell. He also suggests that an answer may be found within the ruins of the old monastery of Meroln on the northeast coast but from where he gets his information he will not say
.
The priest will give the characters a map showing the trade road and the general locations of major areas of interest. The map is not very detailed and not necessarily very accurate as the cleric is not an experienced cartographer.
After thanking the priest most kindly for his information you retire back to the song and prayer tavern to ponder his words and any further actions you may make..
