About this ebook
Milo Martin takes science seriously.
When a federal judge told his school board that evolution is the only scientific explanation for life, Milo accepted it.
When a biology teacher told him that natural selection is all about survival of the fittest, Milo believed it.
When world-renowned scientists explained that reproduction is a life and death game requiring great risk, Milo embraced it.
When those same scientists showed how humans share 98% of their DNA with chimpanzees, Milo decided to live like one.
Milo Martin lacks every trait typically associated with reproductive success. But he is determined to keep his genes from the trash heap of history. He will become a Super-alpha male.
Convinced he is only living by natural instinct, like his chimpanzee cousins, he sets out on a nationwide quest to reproduce as many times as possible with only the best mates, whatever the cost.
The results are unthinkable for the mates who are coerced into consent and gruesome for the rivals who stand in his way. Mankind can handle the occasional psychotic. But can it survive the rational onslaught of Milo Martin's science?
Stalk is Book One of the My Right to Life Series. These books are the memoirs of Milo Martin. His story told his way.

I would like to thank my family for bearing with this writing obsession of mine. I would also like to thank all those who call themselves the new atheists. You were the inspiration for this book and the two others in this series. Finally, I would like to thank those writers in the fields of evolutionary biology and evolutionary psychology for making yourselves such damn easy targets.

Chapter 1
Trick or Treat isn't for another week, buddy,
the man said as he opened his front door.
There was no fear in his voice, no attempt to hide the smirk. This man wasn't afraid. Not only was he unafraid, he was mocking his visitor. He was an alpha alright.
Get in the house!
the chimp said, bringing the gun up and thrusting it toward the alpha's chest. You'll wish this was just Halloween when I'm done.
Oh, whoa, just calm down. Just stay calm,
the man said, shuffling back into the house. We'll work this out. How much you need?
The alpha wasn't smiling anymore, and his tone was more serious, but he was still giving orders. That kind of confidence could only come from always creating the world as he wanted it to be, including claiming the hot female for himself. But all of that was about to change. A red-eyed chimp with a gun had just raided his house, was going to rip his life apart.
The chimp looked the alpha dead in the eyes, and said, I just killed an alpha in Zanesville yesterday. I'm going to kill you and your wife if you say anything else without my permission. If you understand this, say, Yes.
He waited for the reply, hoping this play for power would work. It was a bluff. He would never have killed the female, but he couldn't let the alpha know that. This was the chimp's first close quarters alpha-on-alpha conflict, and he was forging his plan on the fly.
Yes,
the alpha finally said after an obvious internal struggle.
It was clearly all the alpha could do to make himself say it.
The chimp's heart skipped a beat at the beautiful syllable that finally crossed the alpha's lips. He was in charge now, calling the shots and it felt good. You're passing the test. You're a genius. You're actually going to get away with it . . .
He was interrupted mid-thought when she pranced into the room. She had been unaware of the confrontation taking place at her front door. The sight of the chimp holding a gun to her husband's chest shocked her. She brought her hands to her face and let out the most throaty scream of terror he'd ever heard.
The chimp was at once scared to death and absolutely delighted. That wasn't in the pre-raid fantasy, completely impromptu. Shocked, he almost screamed back at her. His mind raced. This is a scene of terror. I'm alive! She's alive! We're free. She is so gorgeous in that little hat! She's going to give herself to me!
There was a time when the chimp might have been worried the neighbors would call the cops at such a scream. But he had grown more and more confident that people just don't care about each other, aren't wired to care about each other. Caring about others is contrary to everything nature has selected.
No, he could do whatever he wanted in this house, and no one would come running, unless their own ego wanted to be part of the action. He'd read enough true crime books to know everyone lives in public isolation. Even a gunshot inside a neighbor's house was likely to go unnoticed or at least unreported. No one wants to sound like a paranoid sissy or a snitch by falsely reporting a gunshot. Fear trumps care every time.
Shh . . . Shh . . . Shh . . .
the alpha said, Baby, we're going to take care of this and our guest will be leaving soon.
This male was too much. He actually thought he was going to slide through on his assertive, positive thinking. He was totally outwitted, paving the way for the chimp's plan to unfold.
Come over here, sit down, and I'll give you instructions,
the chimp said.
The alpha and the female sat on the silky dark couch without a word. What other option did they have?
What's your name?
Ted,
the alpha replied.
Ted or Theodore?
the chimp mocked. Alvin, Simon, Theodore.
Ted,
came the unflinching response.
The chimp didn't want to push the issue. The old fears of high school bullies slipped back into mind and he didn't want to needlessly provoke the alpha's wrath. What if he pushed him too far and the alpha rushed him?
What's your wife's name?
Chloe.
Chloe.
The chimp replayed the name in his mind a few times. It figured such a hot female would have a hot name. He would lose his virginity to Chloe. He tried to fight drifting off into fantasy as he eyed the frail specimen trembling before him. She lacked the alpha's certainty that everything was fine.
The chimp couldn't help letting his mind drift back to just a few hours ago as he stared at her.
She had been the most beautiful female at the zoo. He made sure of it over several hours of stalking. He feverishly took in her every move.
While she and her husband had wandered the zoo, studying the animals, he had followed behind, studying her walk, how her legs slid across the ground, how her tight thighs rubbed together, how her white ribbed sweater danced across the small of her back with every stride.
She'd enticed him with the colorful butterfly tattoo on tanned flesh, occasionally revealed in the gap between shirt and jeans. He had imagined what it was going to be like removing that sweater from her well-formed chest.
She had to know she grabbed the attention of every man around. She had to want to, or she wouldn't have dressed like that. So did her husband. Arrogant jerk had wanted to show her off.
She was without blemish. Her neck-length hair was covered with a round pink stocking-type hat that hugged her head and snugged streaks of white-blond against her rosy cheeks. Her narrow cheeks drained down to full lips. Her round, bright blue eyes shimmered against her unseasonably golden skin. Her perfect face sat atop a perfectly proportioned frame. It made the chimp wonder what on earth this guy did to capture such a creature. Maybe he was a CIA agent, or a stock broker. Or worse, a gangster who . . .
Hey, just take what the hell you came for and quit looking at my wife!
The chimp was prematurely jerked back to reality. The shout reminded him of the cost of indulging in petty pleasures. This male was way too comfortable facing down death, and the chimp was getting worried he would jump across the coffee table and shoot him with his own gun. He knew he had to keep absolute dominion over this couple, especially if Ted turned out to be a gangster.
Chloe, I want you to put these handcuffs on your husband,
he directed, flinging the cuffs on the couch beside her. Put them on behind his back.
Reality was sinking in for Chloe. It was her natural instinct that told her the chimp was there for more than just money. She knew her body would soon belong to another, even if her stupid husband didn't. She fought against her sobs as the alpha put his arms behind his back. She looked at him with pleading eyes, eyes that said, Do something to save me. But he didn't even hesitate.
The chimp almost felt sorry for her, not expecting it to be this easy. Almost felt sorry. Was the alpha so disconnected with his mate that he didn't hear her facial expressions? The alpha wasn't shouting obscene threats. It was nothing like the movies or bookstore thrillers. As she latched the cuff on the second wrist, he couldn't resist rubbing the alpha's nose in it.
What are you doing, Ted? She wanted you to fight for her, you coward! She gave herself, in all her glory, to you. And this is how you repay her? You don't deserve her. You were supposed to say, If you touch her, I swear I'll hunt you down and rip out your throat! But you went down like a putz instead. You're no alpha.
Ted remained silent. He had to know that he'd be helpless to resist now with the cuffs.
So the chimp continued, "I used to work on a pig farm, Ted. Don't laugh. I learned a lot there. Like what we've done here tonight. Whenever a bunch of pigs get put into a new pen together, they have to sort out who's boss and who submits. Two stubborn, strong pigs go head to head. Literally, head to head, each nipping and biting at the snout and ears of the other. The rest of the pigs just get out of the way and wait to see how it ends.
As the two wear down, they end up side by side, head to rear, turning around in circles, almost like dancing. They're both tired, but neither one will give in. When they catch their breath, after maybe ten minutes of dancing, they go back to head to head. They do this until one finally gets tired of it or bored with it or feels like being the alpha isn't worth the effort or pain. He just walks away. Sometimes, the winner will bite at the loser's tail, get in a few closing blows for humiliation. Then it's over.
Ted stared at the chimp, a look of utter confusion on his face.
I won, Ted. You didn't dance nearly long enough to justify your claim on Chloe here.
The coward gave up his mate without a fight. Only knows how to buy his way with money. At least a chimp's hair stands up and he rocks back and forth in protest when his mate is being seduced.
I'm really glad you cuffed him, Chloe. I would have killed him outright if you didn't. Do you believe me?
I believe you,
she said, her voice cracking, tears streaming down her beautiful cheeks.
Good, Chloe,
the chimp said, but knew she needed further convincing.
He needed her absolute obedience, without hesitation. He couldn't let her doubt his resolve, mainly because he didn't even know how far he was capable of going. He was hoping for the path of least resistance.
Now take off his belt and strap it around his ankles. When you're done, sit on that chair.
She complied, but she had to know she was cutting off any chance of her hero's escape. There would be no day-saving, no happy ending, no cozy night on the couch.
Are you still with me, Ted?
Yes.
Ted's voice was firm, yet more reserved. He knew he'd lost all control.
Good. Lay flat on your stomach.
As Ted was shifting his weight around on the couch, the chimp turned his gaze back to Chloe. He could look into her eyes now without shame, having defeated her mate in battle. It was the first time in his life that the look returned was not one of pity. How far he'd come in the last two days!
I don't want to scare you, Chloe. It would be bad for you to lose control of yourself. Then everything would get out of control. If things get out of control, well, it would end badly. Do you understand?
I understand,
she said, and broke into a new fit of tears.
A dreadful thought forced its way into the chimp's head, and he felt stupid not having considered it right away. He knew it was a mistake he could never make again.
Is there anyone else in the house, Chloe?
He loved saying her name.
No,
she replied.
Are you expecting anyone, Chloe?
No,
again.
That's good. I'd hate for this thing to get messy, Chloe,
Ted, why haven't you guys had offspring?
he asked.
The alpha didn't immediately answer.
Ted, I'm going to hurt your wife if you don't tell me,
Because I can't, you freak!
came the reply.
The chimp burst into laughter, and the sound was eerily similar to the actual pant-grunts heard in the wild.
I misread you completely, Ted,
he mocked, because I thought you were an alpha male.
What the hell are you talking about?
Ted shot back. I just want you to leave our house. We've done everything you wanted. Just leave us alone.
Teddy, you gave up the right to make demands when you put on the cuffs. Besides, since you haven't had any luck in the reproduction department, you shouldn't mind me giving it a try.
Chloe sprang back in her seat, drawing her legs into her chest, but didn't act surprised to hear the plan. The chimp debated saying it and probably wouldn't have if Ted wasn't so completely immobilized.
All he could manage was a few thrashes on the couch. A new expression spread across Ted's face that the chimp hadn't seen before and couldn't identify with any level of confidence at first. In fact, it took him several confrontations with other alphas to finally attribute the expression to hopeless regret.
Up to that point with Ted, he'd never seen an alpha express himself in this manner. But then, he'd never confronted an alpha and won before. This was all uncharted territory. The alpha stared at the chimp for some time, as if the longer he held the chimp's stare, the less likely he was to go through with it. Eventually, he realized his wife's fate was a foregone conclusion, and his gaze turned again to the more familiar anger.
"Kill
