Prologue

Journal Entry – Fall 2010

I have killed for centuries.

As the master vampire of a large line, I have enjoyed the company of different types of women and men. However, in all my years of existence, I have never met a woman such as the likes of the sweet Valkyrie, Brandi.

The woman is beautiful, sassy and dynamic. Surely she would boil my blood, if my body contained any.

I never imagined making her mine would have been the—how should I say this properly—production that it was.

Brandi, she is my life’s blood.

Hopefully I will be able to do our story justice.

Chapter One

Today was the big day. Brandi stood in front of the tall brass mirror in the room tucked beside the sanctuary in Saint Thomas Catholic Church and strapped two small knives against her leg. Her brother, Jett, and his fiancée, Sophia, were finally tying the knot. Damn, it was about freaking time. It still baffled her why they didn’t get hitched on the Strip in one of the hotels, since Sophia was a big casino executive, and made sure everyone on the West Coast knew it. Instead, Sophia chose the quaint Catholic Church on Tropicana Boulevard for the big day.

After securing the third knife into the back of her black spandex pants, she turned toward the door just in time to catch the raised brows on Jett’s face.

Please tell me you’re not wearing that cat suit to my wedding? Jett shook his head as he strolled into the room toward his sister. Thick dark hair swayed against his tuxedo collar. Sophia will come undone if you show up in fighting gear. You do realize that, don’t you?

Chill out, big brother. I’m going to put on my maid of honor dress over my suit.

Jett gave her a surveying assessment. He glanced at the long red silk dress hanging near the mirror. Are you sure you’re going to be able to pull off wearing another set of clothes underneath that material? That dress looks very . . . form fitting.

She pushed her hip to the side and cupped it, not liking his incredulous attitude or the inference. Is there a fat joke in that comment? She surveyed the dress once more, it had a bit of pleating down the front, but it wasn’t that form fitting.

No, sis.

Good. I would hate to stab you on your wedding day.

Jett chuckled the entire way to the exit. When he reached the door, he turned, opened his mouth and then miraculously closed it. Without another word, he walked out.
