Reviews for The Romance of Lust A classic Victorian erotic novel
1 rating1 review
- clifforddorsetRating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the full, four-volume edition of the original. This is a classic of its genre, one of the all time greats. Although towards the end of what was originally four volumes it does succumb to the commonest fault of the genre, that of turning towards a monotonous litany of permutations and combinations, it contains some of the most stimulating scenarios and situations. The tale concerns a well-endowed, precocious young man, educated at home by a young governess, with his two younger sisters. Two successive governesses fall under his spell, as do his sisters and several female visitors to their home, not to mention his mother. All his conquests are led to believe they are his earliest educators, which adds some amusement to what is hardly a boring plot. Judicious use of the birch is included, both educationally and for stimulus.
