About this ebook
New York Times bestselling author Liz Carlyle has created a breathtaking new romance about a man without scruples and the lady who brings him to his knees.
What does it matter if Kate, Lady d'Allenay, has absolutely no marriage prospects? She has a castle to tend, an estate to run, and a sister to watch over, which means she is never, ever reckless. Until an accident brings a handsome, virile stranger to Bellecombe Castle, and Kate finds herself tempted to surrender to her houseguest's wicked kisses.
Disowned by his aristocratic family, Lord Edward Quartermaine has turned his gifted mind to ruthless survival. Feared and vilified as proprietor of London's most notorious gaming salon, he now struggles to regain his memory, certain of only one thing: he wants all Kate is offering—and more.
But when Edward's memory returns, he and Kate realize how much they have wagered on a scandalous passion that could be her ruin, but perhaps his salvation.
Liz Carlyle
During her frequent travels through England, Liz Carlyle always packs her pearls, her dancing slippers, and her whalebone corset, confident in the belief that eventually she will receive an invitation to a ball or a rout. Alas, none has been forthcoming. While waiting, however, she has managed to learn where all the damp, dark alleys and low public houses can be found. Liz hopes she has brought just a little of the nineteenth century alive for the reader in her popular novels, which include the trilogy of One Little Sin, Two Little Lies, and Three Little Secrets, as well as The Devil You Know, A Deal With the Devil, and The Devil to Pay. Please visit her at LizCarlyle.com, especially if you're giving a ball.

Reviews for In Love With a Wicked Man

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There are far too many times when I wonder why I read romance novels. Liz Carlyle has just reminded me why.Carlyle, who is known for her story-telling skills and her charismatic characters, has in 'In Love with a Wicked Man' again proven that she's at the top of her game.Kate and Edward meet by accident - in a fit of temper she jumps her horse over a hedge and careens into the hapless Edward. He receives a blow to the head and awakes with no memory of who he is. The reader already knows something of his sad and wicked background and knows that he is an Unsuitable Lover for Kate. (The reader also knows that he is hot, wicked, and beautiful and is surely intended for Kate. Lucky girl.)Briefly, it's a story filled with romance clichés adeptly juggled with ease. Lord Edward Quartermaine is that dark Alpha male we readers of romance expect to encounter. Ned, despite his aristocratic lineage, owns a successful gambling den. He is cynical, hard, polished, and a blond Adonis. Kate, Lady d'Allenay, is, despite her title and property, almost on the shelf. She is open, honest, a competent and careful heir to the family estate, and she is plain. Add to that the 'amnesia' plot device which gives the two the opportunity to meet and fall in love and it could be said that clichés abound. However, in Carlyle's skillful hands the two characters become real people with histories and feelings, thwarted dreams and ambitions. Carlyle's books work because she takes the time to develop the characters. Each character has a history that explains who they are and why they behave as they do. Ned and Kate are strongly attracted to each other, and it will not be a spoiler to say that the required bedroom scenes are fittingly erotic. But at all times, they come across as real people dealing with real problems. And like 'real' people they are required to broaden their horizons, learn from their experiences, and change and grow in order to reach their deserved happily-ever-after.On a personal level, I enjoyed 'In Love with a Wicked Man' more than any other romance novel that I've read this year. Readers who value strong characterization, deft plotting, and flashes of humor may well want to give it a look. (A reviewer's copy was provided by the publisher.)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story with intrigue, a bit of drama action and of course romance.
