About this ebook

When you are sleeping do you dream?
Or are you dream walking?

What if while sleeping you dreamed you were fighting a race of dog head people, and you won the battle. Upon awaking you say “Wow what a dream”, but then you see a real sword in the corner of your room. The same one you use in your dream.

What if in a dream you went to Canada, and had breakfast. Giving the waitress $20 in American money and got back $9.50. Later that day you buy lunch and find all you have is $9.50 in Canadian currency.

What if you fell in love in a dream with a person a billion miles from home? And upon awaking you found, a love ball, a token of their love, on your dresser.

Dog headed people, four foot gray aliens, a three hundred pound spider, coal burning cars and a talking cat, are some elements of Dream Walkers.

When the characters go to sleep they have an out of body experience. They literally walk in the spirit, and have many exciting adventures.

The subject of out of body experiences has never been more popular than today. The movie “Avatar” comes to mind, because out of the body experience is one of its main themes. This book combines 75 percent fact and 25 percent fiction into an entertaining, satirizing, timely adventure for readers of all ages. Teen and pre-teens will identify with the characters and their adventures. Older readers will understand all the allegories and nuances, of the story.

MAY THE GREAT SPIRIT BE WITH YOU!

    Chapter 2

    Terry's Kids

It was early September. Peter was excited about autumn and the coming cool weather, because he was so heat sensitive. Walking to school he saw three girls making fun of another in a wheelchair. He knew one of the taunting ones.

Oh look it’s one of Terry’s Kids. Oh poor girl, they were acting as if she was retarded.

He ran to them bellowing, Yes she appeared on the Neurological Deficiency Association Telethon. He said without taking a breath. They help people like her. He said, pointing at the girl in the wheelchair. They also help people with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and others who have emotional problems being in wheelchairs, just to name a few. You, Mary, how dare you make fun of others. The Great Spirit says, As you sow, so you shall reap. You could get in a car accident tomorrow and end up just like Martha here. Then how would you feel if someone made fun of you?"

The girls all stood silent, and bowed their heads and walked away. Mary was muttering to herself, The Great Spirit says, The Great Spirit says.

Wow you must be my white knight, coming to my rescue!

Peter bowed low saying, At your service madam, anything you desire, let me know. I saw you on the Yearly Telethon, yesterday. Don't worry about them, they are just jealous because you were on national TV and they never will be.

She put out her hand Hi. I am Martha.

Yes I know. I remember you from your television interview. You look better in person. he said, studying her. She had an innocent looking child's face with straight brownish hair, and bright blue eyes, standing about five feet six inches, one hundred fifty pounds, if she could stand.

She, at the same time, was staring at her knight. He was standing six feet, three inches tall, slender, with round glasses and brown-green eyes.

You look like someone I know. Uh, uh, I know. It’s that famous movie star on ’The Pottery Adventures’ but you’re much taller than he is. Still though, you look just like him.

Yes I know, it’s probably my round glasses. Plus I have an owl that lives across the street from my bedroom.

Do you watch the telethon a lot?

Yes when I can. I love the host of the show. He’s funny and has done so much for the Association. Are you new here? He asked, as he was pushing her wheelchair and talking.

"Yes we moved here from New York. My mother read the book ‛Departing South Carolina’. She had to come after that.

You’re kidding! You mean you got one of the five copies my adopted brother Ricky sold? He has a thousand copies of that book in his bathroom closet. That’s because he published it himself. He is working on a new book called ’The Power of Negative Thinking’. He is an expert on that. Of course, he will have to build another bathroom closet to store those books. But bless his little heart, he keeps plugging away.

They were still talking as the bell rang.

    What’s your first class?"

I have English in room 210.

Ok, I will push you to the elevator. I have a writing class in room 101.

    Chapter 3

    Canadian Adventure

Martha is that you? She turned around and threw her shoulders back like she was on stage, and ran to him.

Hi Peter, she said, with a big grin.

He rubbed his eyes, confused by what he was seeing. Blinking them many times speaking and slowly, I can’t believe it. You’re walking!

Peter are you, okay? You look so white, and yes, I can walk. Isn’t it great? How, I can walk, I do not know; but hey, I will enjoy it for as long as I can. she said with a big smile, shifting her weight from foot to foot and started a little dance.

You’re finally free of that chair. I want to dance with you. He held out his hand and they began to dance Ballroom Style, right there on the sidewalk. He started dancing slower and slower and finally stopped. I wonder where we are and how we got here. he said, scratching his head. He realized they were on the outskirts of a large city. You could see skyscrapers in the distance.

Martha pointed to a sign. Look, it says, Welcome to Canada.

Canada! How did we get here, and how do we get back? He said, staring at the sign, It’s funny though; I have always wanted to come here. Ever since my dad said he wanted to be a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer.

Well did your dad come here?

"No, He joined the Army instead. He was a Drill Instructor and believe me, we can tell, he still is.

What part of Canada are we in?

Well, I know one thing for sure; we are not in Quebec, because all the signs are in English.

Hey, that’s pretty good for a girl. He ducked as she swung her purse at him. He had to comb his hair to get it back in place from the wind of her swing. "Boy you’ve got a powerful left arm there, have you ever considered boxing?

Scrub you; I do very well for a girl. Thank you very much. I will have you know, I made A’s and B’s in my classes last year.

Peter grabbed her hand and twirled her around, then took a bow, and she curtsied. I see you have been around me too much, you are even picking up my ’Scrub You’ slang. They both started laughing. They were having a great time.

You know I was born on Boxing Day.

    Boxing Day, what’s Boxing Day?

It was the day when people gave a present or Christmas box to those who had worked for them throughout the year. This is still done, today, in Britain, and here in Canada. It is done for postmen, paper boys, and hired help. It started back in the Middle Ages, when people would give their servants and slaves, a box of goods and money the day after Christmas.

Why would they do that after Christmas? Why not on Christmas, I don’t understand?

Because on Christmas, the servants would serve their masters, and serve their guests. In return, the master honored them, by giving them there Christmas on December 26 and the week after, off. He would also give them a box of clothes and money, in appreciation of their service.

My, aren’t we full of knowledge today?

The air was fresh and crisp with a scent of rain. Feeling very peaceful and happy they started walking toward downtown, a mile or more away. Within a blink of an eye they were standing among the skyscrapers, in the heart of the city.

Peter spotted a sign. Saying as he pointed to it, Look, we’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. He said sounding like the Wicked Witch of the West. It says, Vancouver Bank so we are in Vancouver, British Columbia. Look at all of those beautiful snowcapped mountains in the distance. This looks like a little New York City.

How did we get here so fast? Martha was asking. She looked around as if she were inspecting every building.

We were more than two miles away. We started walking, and ’shazam’, we are in the heart of the city. How did we do that?

I don’t know. he said, as he looked around. I don’t know. I guess we walked a mile per second.

You know this looks like a picture post card.

Duh. It is a picture post card. I have one, in my room, of this very spot. I love those mountains. I wish I could live here forever. It is so beautiful He gave a deep sigh. The trance was broken by the grumbling sounds of his stomach.

    I’m hungry, are you?

Yes. There is a small café over there. The neon sign says open, so let’s go.

As they walked they could hear the sound of footsteps on the concrete. Some of the night shift were getting off work. Peter held the door open for her like a perfect gentlemen.

She nodded her head. Thank you, oh kind sir.

A woman with long curly hair greeted them. She was not very tall; her apron covered most of her. Table for two?

You can make it three if you want to join us, he giggled.

As they sat down, Martha whispered: Pssss. Peter, do you have any money on you? All I have is a ten dollar bill."

Yes, I do, but its American money. I have a twenty dollar bill. I wonder if they take that here. He then motioned for the hostess. Excuse me, but do you take American money here?

The hostess smiled a big grin. Not only do we take U.S. dollars, we give a twenty-five percent discount for what you buy.

All right, this is too good to be true.

He turned back to Martha. I can’t believe a twenty-five percent discount. I can’t believe you are here with no wheelchair. This is like a dream. Peter was so excited he could hardly sit still. He looked around to observe the others in the restaurant. There were police officers and business people who had apparently stopped in on their way to work.

It was 5:00 AM and they ordered a large breakfast.

What day is today? he asked, tapping his fingers on the table.

    Oh it’s Saturday.

Great we don’t have to be in any hurry then. Because getting back might take some doing. Oh well, we will worry about that later.

They talked for about an hour as they ate.

Did I tell you I have a new boyfriend?

    No. Tell me about him.

Peter always wanted the best for her.

Well his name is Tom Mudrow, but I call him Terrific Tom and he uses that as his E-Mail address. His Native American name is Tender Hawk. You know, a Hawk is a visionary and a protector.

Yes, he interrupted. I know about hawks because my power animal is an Owl, and they are both birds of prey. The owl is the symbol of the night. Owl People can foretell the future.

Oh and what is that thing you are always saying? she asked breathlessly.

    Oh, I don’t know.

Yeah, you do. You’re always saying ’I know things’. You say that all the time. When someone asks you how you knew a certain fact about them, when they never told you, you just say ’I know things’.

You’re right; it’s a gift from the Great Spirit. I wish I could fine tune it. Or turn it on and off at will, but I can’t. So tell me more about this Tom Mudrow. What does he look like?

Well he is older than I am a freshman in college. He is handsome, to me, anyway. He is about five feet, six inches tall, a little over weight, with a round face and wears glasses. What makes him special is that it does not bother him that I am, or was in a wheelchair.

Oh so you like older men, Hmmm?

I do, they are more mature then most of the guys in high school.

You’re right about that, I am really happy for you.

When they finished, they went to pay the bill. Martha gave the lady a ten dollar bill, and got four dollars and fifty cents change in Canadian money. Peter paid his bill and got fourteen dollars and fifty cents change in Canadian money. He put his change in his pocket. They walked out of the café together.

They walked for a block and talked as sun appeared over the mountains. The sky was glowing yellow.

Boy it’s really a great morning to be out here. What do you think?

She looked in his eyes and said, Yes it is.

Suddenly she disappeared, just vanished, right in front of him.

He began to shout, Martha! Martha where are you? Where did you go? He ran down the street between the tall monoliths of concrete, yelling for her. In the background he kept hearing a loud, annoying piercing sound, in short bursts, na — na — na - na - na. He was abruptly thrown back in his bed, panting like a dog, totally out of breath. The alarm clock was going off.

Oh it was a dream. Darn! It sure seemed real. I hate that blasted alarm clock. It always ruins my good dreams.

He got up drudgingly. I can’t wait to tell Martha about the dream.

I wonder what day it is? he said to himself, as he looked at his atomic clock. It displayed the day and time. Oh my God, it’s Friday. I thought it was Saturday. I can’t wait to tell Martha how she was walking in my dream!

    Canadian Change

Martha! Martha! he shouted as she got off the wheelchair bus. I see you are in your wheelchair. Peter had hoped the dream was real.

Uh, duh, she retorted. I have been in this chair since I was a little girl.

Yes you told me. It’s just that I had a dream about you walking. It was a great dream. He talked fast because he was so excited about the dream.

Slow down, I can hardly understand you.

Ok, ok, I am just so excited about this dream I had about you and me. Oh and by the way, how is Terrific Tom doing? He looked at her intently to see how she would react.

Her eyes opened wide. She could not believe what she was hearing. How do you know about him? I’ve told no one about him. She had a very confused look on her face and she waited with anticipation for his next words.

Well you told me about him early this morning in Vancouver, British Columbia.

What! I thought that was just a dream or the Ambeein. I dreamed that you and I were in Canada and I was walking. No chair! She noticed Peter standing there, white as a ghost, not saying anything, she watched him curiously and asked, Are you okay?

Uh — uh — uh - how can we be in each other's dreams? This is too scary.

His voice began to shake. "You told me about Tom, Tender Hawk, that he was a college student and he loved to play the lottery and one time he won ten thousand dollars. I don't understand how this can be. I have been listening to Coast to Coast
