About this ebook
Take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where you’ll meet the women of the Kauffman Amish Bakery in Lancaster County. As each woman’s story unfolds, you will share in her heartaches, trials, joys, dreams … and secrets. You’ll discover how the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle can clash with the “English” way of life—and the decisions and consequences that follow. Most importantly, you will be encouraged by the hope and faith of these women, and the importance they place on their families. Miriam Lapp, who left the Amish community of Bird-in-Hand three years ago, is heartbroken when her sister calls to reveal that her mother has died suddenly. Traveling home to Pennsylvania, she is forced to face the heartache from her past, including her rift from her family and the breakup of her engagement with Timothy Kauffman. Her past emotional wounds are reopened when her family rejects her once again and she finds out that Timothy is in a relationship with someone else. Miriam discovers that the rumors that broke them up three years ago were all lies. However, when Timothy proposes to his girlfriend and Miriam’s father disowns her, Miriam returns to Indiana with her heart in shambles. When Miriam’s father has a stroke, Miriam returns to Pennsylvania, where her world continues to fall apart, leaving her to question her place in the Amish community and her faith in God.

Reviews for A Place of Peace

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Miriam left her Amish community four years ago, after a broken romance and before she joined the church. Content with the English life, but still feeling the pull of her Amish roots, she returns to her community at her mother’s sudden death. To her father and brother, she is unwelcome, and her younger sister scorns her, but her older sister and elderly aunt welcome her with open arms. This tale, the third in the series, follows Miriam as she travels the road away from the Amish and then back to it, but where will she stay - in the Amish community or in the English world? Her road is filled with detours and road blocks, the biggest being her failed relationship with her family and the loss of Timothy, the one man she truly loved. This well-written story is interesting as well as entertaining, and you likely will wish you could offer some advice to Miriam! But, finally, eventually, the truth will set everyone free. J
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I hope there are more books in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Her heart broken by Timothy Kauffman, Miriam Lapp left the Amish community four years ago to build a new life. Her heart is broken again when she hears her mother has died. She returns to Gordonville, Pennsylvania for her mother's funeral and while there she feels the pull to rejoin the Amish and finally be baptized. She needs to move on from Timothy but she's not sure she can even though he seems to be involved with someone else. Will Miriam finally be able to move on or does God have other plans for her? The third book in Amy Clipston's Kaufmann Amish Bakery series (following A Gift of Grace: A Novel (Kauffman Amish Bakery Series) and A Promise of Hope: A Novel (Kauffman Amish Bakery Series)), "A Place of Peace" is a nicely done novel about lost love that is found again. Clipston has created two believable characters, Miriam and Timothy, who are torn apart by circumstances beyond their control yet never forget each other. Miriam is the deeper of the two characters as she struggles not only with what she thought was Timothy's betrayal but a tragic incident that happened while she was babysitting, as well as her mother's death and her family's reluctance to accept her return from the English world. While Timothy's struggles to move on from Miriam are well portrayed by Clipston, I wanted to shake him at times for his continued refusal to see what was happening right before his eyes (I also felt sorry for Naomi and am happy to see that the next book in the series will feature her story). I also wondered why Miriam was treated so harshly by her family yet her sister Lilly, who I thought acted far worse than Miriam, got off scot free - to me this means Clipston has created believable characters that I care about and want to know more about."A Place of Peace" is a nicely done novel set in the Amish community.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A story about getting a second chance at happiness. But also a story that deals with something very hard for many, and that is forgiveness. Miriam Lapp will have to choose to forgive after her family has treated her very badly. But there is nothing better than having family forgive each other and the relationship restored. The author took a very tragic situation in a young woman's life and turned it around for good, but at times I thought it would never happen.Miriam Lapp left her Amish community four years ago, leaving behind the love of her life, Timothy, and her family to live in the 'English' world and escape the pain she left behind. Now she gets a phone call from one of her sisters telling her that her Mom has passed away. With a broken heart she returns for the funeral, only to be rebuffed by her father and some of her siblings. She must also face Timothy, the man she was to marry at one time, but was fed false information about him and she believed it. Timothy has also believed a lie all these years about Miriam and why she left, but he too has never forgotten Miriam and has always loved her. Is it too late for these two to get back together? At times I would have said yes, but eventually their strong love for one another will win out.The stories in this series have been hard to put down. They deal with real problems, some which don't always work out for the best for all involved. Not everything gets a happy ending. I encourage everyone to read the books in the order they were written because you will miss out on getting to really know these people and this community of Amish folks. Each story picks up shortly after the one before it ends. Looking forward to book 4, 'A Life of Joy' next.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book sadly ends the Kauffman Amish Bakery series (according to other sites). Miriam has left the Amish community and her beloved Timothy because of lies told by her sister, Lily. When Miriam's mother dies, she returns home only to be rejected by her family in the same old story. Miriam struggles to be accepted by her family and to accept the fact that Timothy is engaged to Naomi. The story is the same old same old but this time Cliptson pulls it off. I found myself unable to set the book down, anxious to see what happens to Miriam, Timothy, and Naomi, as well as the rest of the characters.Besides delicious recipes, this book holds a lesson for its readers: Do not be judgmental or allow misunderstandings to control your life.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another fabulously written addition to the Kauffman Amish Bakery novels by Amy Clipston! I was super glad to have had the chance to review these novels in this series. They are about the plain and simple Amish, but they are packed full of BIG, complex lessons of God's never ending love and guidance. Once again, we are taken to Pennsylvania Amish country through Amy's words and research. This particular addition to the series is my favorite. It just settled into my heart and pulled me straight into the story. We get to see lots of the fun loving characters from the first two novels, along with some new ones. I really felt a connection to Miriam as she questioned things in her life. I have often found myself doing just what she did as she asked the questions, and I found, like Miriam, at times that it was hard to rely on Faith alone. But, through lots of prayer and understanding, God's love shines through Miriam and flows straight to the readers souls. Once again, I give Amy's book no less than 5 stars and the highest of recommendation. If you are new to Amy's books, never fear....this, as with the other two, are good as stand alone titles as well, but, as always, I highly recommend that you read these fabulous books in order. I am looking forward to more work from Amy (hmmm...possibly another Kauffman additional???? Hint, hint, Amy ;-)!) in the future! Hats off, to a WONDERFULLY amazing author!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5You know I adored the first and second book of the Kauffman Amish Bakery series and I have to tell you this third book totally exceeded my expectations. I loved this story so much. I devoured the book in a day and wished there was more. The characters in this book drove me batty since they wouldn't communicate! I couldn't imagine going through life and changing your life for a rumor…I think that the book really does show that communication is key in your life. I really identified with Miriam, the main character, in all she wants is acceptance from her family and the love from the man she's always loved. I think those are two things every woman wants and needs. The whole story had me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen. With every step/decision that Miriam made I was inwardly cheering or moaning…something I never do! I also love how Amy keeps characters from the other two books in this one. It's like a little treat whenever one would appear or would be talked about! I always get to and end of a book and wish I knew more about what happened to the characters…Amy gives you that and I'm forever thankful! Ok, so I'm rambling now. Bottom line - READ this book/series now!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book starts out with Miriam in Indiana and living with her cousin. She get a phone call from her sister about the mother. She then rushes home to Lancaster. When she arrives there she and her cousin stay with their aunt on the back of her father property.Miriam is struggling to make amends with her father and also with Timothy. She finds out that her sister made lies for she was jealous of her older sister Miriam. Her father and the rest of the community blame her for the death of a child that died of SIDS.She arrives home for the funeral of her mother's death. Her father makes it clear she not welcome. She hears that her past boyfriend has moved on and is marrying another girl. Does Miriam find the peace is seeking and get her love of her future? find out by reading. I recommend this book. Though I suggest that your read the earlier books first for this book refer to them a bit. "A Gift of Grace", "A Promise of Hope" are the two book before this book.
