In book 3 of the Fever series, a number of people/fae/critters are trying to find the “Sinsar Dubh”, the ancient book that both Seelie and Unseelie fae, and seemingly everyone else who knows about it want to get their hands on, for various reasons. Mac, being someone who can sense the book, is trying to expand the number of “people” she has to help her out and back her up. She still doesn't know who, if anyone, she can really trust. In the midst of all this, Mac discovers that there is a deadline, or something big and deadly will happen. Another really good book in this series. Got even better in the last few pages, but then ended on a cliffhanger.

This book disappointed me, on most levels really. The pacing was off, the writing was off, the characters were off... it just sort of lacked the polish/sophistication it needed. Do you know what I mean? When you read a book, and every single word adds something, has spark- artfulness. That's what the book lacked. It was sometimes messy and sometimes boring and sometimes irritating. There was some good stuff in there, but nothing with the right amount of excitement or creativity or gravity. I think the things that came closest to delivering this were the cake moment & the MacHalo (this will make sense after you read the book), which is a shame because they were such small scenes. It was really a step down from the last one.

And Barrons? I just don't get it. I've read a lot of admiration & fangirling, but to me he comes off a little like Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey, which is NOT a compliment. Not quite as bad, to be honest. There are a few great scenes between he and Mac, such as the escape from the LM in Bloodfever, and the times where Mac really stands up for herself and bites back.
But Barrons does not seem remotely sexy to me- he's almost abusive. And hey, I can get into some of the traits that Barrons possesses- Curran from the Kate Daniels series pulls off the alpha male thing well, Dimitri from Vampire Academy pulls off the older-guy-mentor thing well, Trent from the Hollows series pulls off the mysterious shades-of-grey-is-he-or-isn't-he-evil thing REALLY well. But Barrons seems inferior to me when compared to these heroes/romantic interests. Perhaps the rest of the series will change my mind? After all, the books haven't really been romances so far, so maybe I'll see a different side of Barrons later. But for now, really see nothing special there.

DO NOT READ THE NEXT PART UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED THE BOOK.
So that ending made me really uncomfortable and angry. Not that I think rape scenes, or even that kind of rape scene, should be banished from books. Although they never leave me very happy, they can really add something to a story. But something about it, something that I can't quite articulate, bothered me. Maybe its place right at the end? Maybe a lack of gravity? The rape-plus-brainwashing combo? Maybe it just wasn't good writing, stylistically? Anyways, I did know that something like that was going to happen eventually, because I read a hint of it before I even picked up the first book in the series. Maybe because I thought it would be V'Lane, and the reality was inferior to how I'd thought it would go? But it just felt wrong to me. The author could have done a better job of it. I'm hoping the next book may change my mind about this somehow.

Anyways, here's hoping the next book will be an improvement, as Bloodfever was an improvement over Darkfever for me.

Man... this series seriously sucked up my time!! I read book one and waited about a week to start book 2. I finished book 2 and then RUSHED home to pick up book three.This book was even better than the previous ones (don't read them out of order, though, it's very important to have the full background).The sexual tension/triangle is HOT HOT HOT. The plot is dark and scary and suspenseful. Evil isn't spelled out for us.It ends in a cliffhanger - you HAVE to have book 4 ready to go when you're done with this one. (I ended up getting books 4 and 5 in ebook because I couldn't wait long enough to find them in a store).

I think I read this one before but this was a re-read. I didn't remember things but my few cents are as follows. Barrons is getting more and more on my nerves. I get he's not human and I get he's super bad ass...but I don't get is why the author feels the need to reenforce those facts every five minutes. Also Mac does a lot better at the whining in this one. I am still intrigued by V'Lane he has been way more constant than Barrons as a love interest/anti-hero.

This book ended with a disturbing bang. We shall see what the next book holds (which I have not read before).

Mac finally accepts her reality and takes matters into her own hands in this one. Glad to finally see her stop being so immature and ditzy. We definitely learn a lot more in this one but I can't figure out Barrons and it's driving me nuts. I can't tell whose side he's on or what his deal is. I also thought after the last book the romance would heat up, but nothing!! Ahh...and the ending!

Loving this series, every one has me on the edge of my seat.. THIS one kept me awake until 3 am..!! and then I find I have downloaded Number 5 instead of number 4 and number 4 is not available on Overdrive.. arrggggg....

I'm probably not going to receive a whole lot of love for this but Faefever is my least favorite novel in this series. Before you ask, it has nothing to do with the cruel ending, which I am forever grateful that it was not more detailed. Faefever is beautifully written and the characters are still beyond amazing, I just found Faefever lacking. It felt like I was reading a great deal of information that was already covered in the first two novels. There is a big difference between catching a reader up and explaining everything again in great detail. It's like someone made the decision that since this book is the halfway point in the series it should contain a substantial amount of information from the previous books, for new bizarre readers that start reading a series halfway through, and then a few new bits of information to keep the readers that started from the beginning happy. And why would you start a series halfway through anyway? I'm so OCD about reading a series in order, staring from the very first book, that it just makes no sense to me. I can understand accidentally picking up a book that you did not know was in a series and reading it, that happened to me with the Anita Blake series. But to consciously pick up a book, say the fourth in a seven book series, and know that it's almost halfway into the series and say 'I think I'll just start the series here.' That just bugs me to no end, and I have know idea why. Sorry, went seriously off topic there for a second. You just never know when a rant is going to come out. Now where was I...So for the readers that have already read the first two books, should you read Faefever or skip to the next one? Definitely read this book. You are going to end up rereading some old stuff, hence the three moon rating, but the new, you'll absolutely LOVE the new stuff. Also, note that Faefever has a cliffhanger of epic proportions. Thank God the series has already ended and the next book is already available!

Die hungrigen Schatten lauern ebenso wie die Sidhe-Seherin (obwohl sie ja selbst eine ist) oder die anderen Feenwesen. Alle haben es auf das Buch abgesehen und nur Mac kann es mit ihren Fähigkeiten spüren. Daher ist sie in der Lage, sich mit V’lane zu verbünden. Sehr zum Missfallen Barrons. Über ihn weiß man ebenso wenig wie in den Vorgänger-Bänden. Er gibt sich geheimnisvoll und wirkt gleichzeitig anziehend auf sie (auch wenn sie es nicht zugeben will). Die Streitereien zwischen Barrons und V’lane sind köstlich, zwei eifersüchtige Gockel buhlen um Mac und sie weiß noch immer nicht genau, was Barrons eigentlich ist. Ein Vampir? Ein Feenprinz?Es gibt in diesem Band einige Hintergrund-Informationen zu der ganzen Geschichte. Mac zapft mehrere Quellen an und erfährt zum Beispiel, dass das mächtige Buch beispielsweise Jahrhundertelang vom Zirkel der Sidhe-Seherin bewacht worden ist, ehe es auf mysteriöse Weise verschwand. Und sie erfährt auch, was es mit der Mauer auf sich hat und warum alle darum kämpfen, diese Mauern zu erhalten. Und dann erhält sie immer wieder Post von einem anonymen Absender. Es sind Seiten aus dem Tagebuch ihrer Schwester, welches sie schon in den früheren Bänden hektisch gesucht hatte. Die schmerzlichen Seiten bestärken sie in ihrem Ziel, Rache an dem Lord Master zu nehmen, der sie offenbar getötet hat. Die Dreistigkeit, dass er auch noch bei ihr anruft, lässt sie über sich hinaus wachsen.Es gibt ein dramatisches Ende und ich möchte dem nicht vorgreifen. Aber es ist völlig offen, wie es weitergeht. Es war spannend und sehr informativ, zuweilen mit einem trockenen Humor gespickt. Einzig, dass es sich immer wieder nur um das eine Thema drehte -nämlich Sex- (auch wenn in der Richtung gar nichts passierte, war ein bisschen blöd. Warum da nicht wirklich was passierte, erklärt sich auch durch die Regeln der Feenwelt. Trotzdem fand ich diesen Band besser und gebe daher vier Sterne.

Intense and engrossing read; well written so not worthy of rating a 1 for "didn't like it." But particularly unsatisfying entry in series. Frustrating. Relentlessly dark and both protagonist and reader get no answers. A bit more into some of the mysterious good and evil forces both but still no answers. Pretty much all a dark morass of confusion. *sigh* still hooked so will read the next one; but, really glad I did not purchase. More setting up or foreshadowing the rest of series and I have a feeling next volume will catch a reader up nicely if this one not read. Not sure why other reviewers say Mac showed real growth; I saw backsliding into self-involvement and the not endearing "not my fault" attitude. Don't even get me started on the ending.

For the life of me I can't actually believe all that happened in this very short book. Not only was it all packed into a small frame but it happened back to back and by the time I actually had got my mind to stop reeling it was on to the next event. I must say that the witty girl Mac who started this book almost didn't seem to be visible in this one at all as that version anyway. Still because I have invested my time for reading these I will continue and hope to not have to wait an eternity for the last one.

AMAZING! Totally worth the 5 star rating. What was that ending?! I'm almost half way through Dreamfever because I just couldn't wait to find out what would happen to Mac and everybody next. Great story telling, great plot, great sexual tension between Mac and Barrons. I started really liking Barron when I read Bloodfever, but after I ended this one I'm right with Dani: I want to give my virginity to him. Or just throw him in bed, since the virginity thing isn't quite possible anymore. ^^

Aaaanyway, if you think that this series isn't worth your time, hold that thought right there! The first book may have been a little slow going, but things definitely picks up by the second book and become virtually unstoppable by the third. A tip: if you begin to read this one, make sure you already have the next to in hand. You just won't be able to wait for them. :)

Faefever is the third in the Fever series and I devoured it like a Shade eats flesh, leaving only the fluttering paper husk of the book behind.

Moning does an amazing job of layering on the world-building so that it doesn't feel as if you're drinking from a firehose, trying to sort it all out. She ratchets up the tension with enemies around every corner, and keeps you guessing as to whether her allies are trustworthy at all.

I will say this, though: I would be coming unglued at the seams if I didn't have book four on the shelf, ready to go. The way that Faefever ends is nothing short of criminal. Cliffhanger doesn't begin to describe it.

A Twitter friend commented that the Fever paperbacks may be laced with cocaine, since they are so addictive. I wouldn't doubt it. And I wouldn't change it. :)

Wow. That was...I may need to revisit. I don't read certain kinds of books...certain scenes of an act that makes me shiver in fear and dark memories. I had no idea...if I had, I never would have started this book. But now I'm in it, through at least a part of it, and terrified to read the next installment.

Two stars - I hate to be blindsided.

I finally made it back to this series and plan to finish it soon.

I really like this series with the exception of the cliffhangers. If I was reading the books as they came out I would be fairly upset with the wait. Now that I can blow through the rest of them its easier.

I love the series and story line. Except omfg Barrons and Mac just need to hook up. like really. it's painful at this point.

Can't wait for the next book!

So. Ok. Again, not any good, but I got VERY ANGRY when I saw that starting today these books are not available for purchase on Kindle in the US, so I can't read the next one immediately. And then I read the description of the next one, and it sounds SO DUMB, so now I'm ashamed that I even WANT to read it, but I'm almost done! I just want to find out what happens to these characters! I was two days away from never having to think about these books again, and now I have to wait for the hard copies to be delivered. Grr.

This series is really starting to grow on me. I was not a huge fan of the first two books, though they were not bad. It is great to see Mac growing up from the silly little girl that lived in Southern Georgia. She is really starting to take her life seriously.

Probably my least favorite installment in the Fever Series so far (I did finish it in a day however!) I continue to find Moning's prose sloppy and unremarkable, but she is a master at plot. I am so invested in what is going to happen to Mac, Barrons, V'lane, and the gang, and to be honest, I don't really have any guesses for what will pass! I don't know if that's due to the immersive nature of the story--I'm just not thinking about it--or if she's really good at keeping her plot twists guarded. Off to read the next installment! When I'm done with them and can finally stop and breathe for a moment, I want to spend some good time thinking about the sexual politics of the series. V'lane and Barrons both dominate Mac (often physically) and force their will upon her, yet she is also determined to carve her own path. There are also numerous marks about the weakness and illogic of women. I just can't decide how I feel about it.
