About this ebook
A lusciously lethal novel by the New York Times bestselling author of Sticks & Scones
“The main course on Davidson’s latest menu, served with lively pacing and characterization, is satisfying and tasty.”—Publishers Weekly
It should be the happiest day of Goldy’s life. The Colorado caterer is about to tie the knot with the man of her dreams, homicide detective Tom Schultz. But minutes before the ceremony is to begin, Tom phones with an urgent message: The wedding is off, and the reason is murder!
Tom was on his way to the church when he stopped to pick up Father Olson—and found the rector shot and dying. Yet by the time Tom’s fellow officers arrive at the crime scene, Tom has disappeared. Has the groom been abducted by the killer? Or has he gotten cold feet and walked out of Goldy’s life?
For better or worse, Goldy needs to know the truth. So she puts her exquisitely decorated wedding cake on ice and begins to search for clues. Her fiancé’s life—and her future happiness—will lead her to an unsavory killer whose unholy passion make Goldy a widow before she’s a wife.
Featuring original recipes for such heavenly delights as monster cinnamon rolls, savory shrimp on wheels, and sinful first wasp latkes!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fun story where the main character is a caterer who gets drawn into mysteries. Includes her recipes, which the one I tried so far, Shrimp on Wheekls, was excellent. Not only a good read, but a good dinner!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Goldy is getting married. Or is she? The priest has not arrived, nor has her fiancee. When her fiancee calls at the last minute saying the priest has been murdered, rumors begin to fly at the Episcopal church. Things only get worse for Goldy as she discovers her fiancee is now missing. She is told to sit still and wait, but her mind won't let her. Being an active woman who makes her living at catering, she throws herself into cooking and trying to figure out what is happening in her church family. This book has numerous recipes, some of which I intend to copy and try. I found it to be a good read. Some of the character's reactions didn't ring true for me, and I have another bone to pick which would be a spoiler, but for the most part I enjoyed reading this and intend to read more. I won't be keeping it on my shelves, because I don't think I will need to read it again, but I'll happily share and recommend it to friends as a fun cozy mystery.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Goldy is getting a bit irritating. I think her character is very self absorbed and petty. I will try one more to see if she grows up any.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Goldy and Tom are just about to tie the knot when murder interposes. I kept thinking, "how is she still functioning when she's had NO sleep". Some mysteries make sense when you look at them the right way. This one didn't make as much sense - but then some people are just crazy and there is no understanding them.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoy this character, love hearing about cooking/recipes
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is book # 4 in the Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery series. The Altar Guild ladies seem to have everything under control for the wedding reception, but Goldy just can’t stay out of the kitchen. She SHOULD be dressed by now … because it’s her own wedding. Yes, Goldy and homicide detective Tom Schulz are going to tie the knot. But the pastor is late, the reception hall is locked, and no one else seems to have the keys. Just before the ceremony is to begin Goldy gets a call from Tom – the wedding isn’t going to happen today. Pastor Olson has been murdered. When the police finally arrive at the church they bring even worse news; Tom Schulz is missing, apparently kidnapped by Olson’s killer.
Goldy is a likeable amateur detective, but I don’t know anyone who refers to their significant other by his full name. Almost every time Goldy thinks about Tom she uses “Tom Schulz.” This really irritated me after a while. The Episcopal Church also takes quite a hit here; there doesn’t seem to be a single competent clergyman in the group, and the women of the Altar Guild are either controlling shrews or scared little mice. I thought too much time was spent on outlining the fight between the “charismatics” and the “Old Guard” factions.
Still, this was easy to get into and a pretty fast read. Mott offered plenty of suspects, plot twists and recipes to keep me turning pages.1 person found this helpful
