About this ebook
To go beyond the legacy of revolution, religious fundamentalism and veiled women and find the real people of Iran, a young Canadian dons the cloak of Islam. The result of Alison Wearing's journey is a warm, funny and shocking collection of riveting portraits and stories about the generous, irrepressible people she met. With a novelist's love of language and eye for detail, she takes the reader into the homes and hearts of people whose spirit, intelligence and laughter enlighten and impress. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very witty! You get a real sense of the journey she is on discovering not only the country and people of Iran but ultimately herself.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Were this book to be read by every high-school student in the USA - American political agression may be radically changed. A book to be read every few years - it contains such tenderness, insight, humour. A whole new world opens up to us vis-a-vis the humanity of the ordinary Iranians in the face of the multitudes of restrictions in their lives. Reading this book always helps to cleanse the tawdry hopelessness & toxicity of the Bush era.
