About this ebook

A Devilish Duke on a Quest for Pleasure . . .

Frannie Darling was once a child of London's roughest streets, surrounded by petty thieves, pickpockets, and worse. But though she survived this harsh upbringing to become a woman of incomparable beauty, Frannie wants nothing to do with the men who lust for her, the rogues who frequent the gaming hall where she works. She can take care of herself and feels perfectly safe on her own—safe, that is, until he strides into her world, and once again it becomes a very dangerous place indeed.

To bed her but not wed her. That's what Sterling Mabry, the eighth Duke of Greystone, wants. But Frannie abhors arrogant aristocrats interested only in their own pleasure. So why then does the thought of an illicit tryst with the devilish duke leave her trembling with desire? Her willing body begs for release . . . and a wicked, wonderful surrender.

Author

Lorraine Heath

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since. Her novels have been recognized with numerous industry awards and have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

I wasn't sure I would enjoy this hero, but he really grew on me. And the story was well crafted. I really like the friendships among this group.

The first time we meet Sterling Mabry, the eighth Duke of Greystone, is when he returns home and finds his sister with Luke Claybourne. He seems pompous, prejudiced and overall not very pleasant person. Don't worry, he will win you over.
You don't get the truth about him and the reason he argued with his father right away. You know he has some kind of problem but it could have been anything. The author used something you can't scoff at as something unrealistic because you understand why he would think it's something really bad. At the same time, she didn't make the problem insurmountable.
Frannie Darling is a heartbreaking character, but not one to be pitied. She did seem too good to be true at times. She finally finds out what happened the night she was kidnapped when she was a young girl.
Surrender to the Devil is a bit over-the-top as far as the romance goes, but it doesn't make it a bad one. It is lust at first sight. Some readers may have issues with the speed they are going. I didn't have any issues with it.
If you don't mind a Dickensian historical romance that doesn't shy away from the gutter (but doesn't shove it in your face either), but makes its love stories and characters larger than life (they may or may not be a bit unrealistic at times), then this series is definitely for you.
The rating is influenced by other books too. It may be the weakest of the three I've read so far, but it is still a wonderful love story.

A surprisingly touching story, which almost had me in tears (something the typical HR never does), this is a continuation of Lorraine Heath's take on the Oliver Twist gang of lads all grown up and successful. Frannie Darling, the heroine, is the lone girl from the little band of thieves, and she has dedicated her life to saving orphans from the mean streets of London. Her background makes her a totally unsuitable wife for the Duke of Greystone, which means of course that they fall in love.

A surprisingly quick read which I enjoyed - my favorite in this series so far. This is Frannie Darling's story. Protected by Feagan's Lads (as she calls them) she finally finds love with Sterling, the Duke of Greystroke (another duke named Sterling!) Only due to their differences in status it's understood he can never marry her. He ruthlessly pursues her and because she is so taken with him - and against her better judgment - they embark upon a short affair, both knowing it can only hurt them in the end. As far-fetched as much of it was, I liked it.

Read from April 19 to 21, 2013Read/Listened for Fun (Paperback/Kindle/Audio)Overall Rating: 4.00Story Rating: 3.75Character Rating: 4.25Audio Rating: 4.25 (not part of the overall rating)First thought after finishing: Frannie Darling deserved love and I am so glad she finally found it!Story Thoughts: I knew that Frannie's story would be a tough read. Her back story is heartbreaking and her plight for the orphaned children is heart-string pulling. I adored her part of the story and was really happy when she found love. It took a bit for to get into the romance between Frannie and Sterling but that all clicked about half way through the story. This was another fantastic addition to this series.Character Thoughts:Frannie was the "scoundrel" that I was most looking forward too! She is a fantastic leading lady and has a wonderful heart. Her back story is heartbreaking but she over came it all. Sterling took a bit too like. Seriously, his attitude and I did not quite mesh. Though as Frannie fell in love so did I! I love when characters make me love them even though I am opposedAudio Thoughts: Narrated By Susan Ericksen /Length: 8 hrs and 51 minsI wasn't sure if I would like switching over to one narrator but Susan did a fantastic job. She was FRANNIE! I don't think anyone else would be as good at getting her emotion and cadence. It just worked!Final Thoughts: I need to get the last in this series soon!

Wild Fire begins with Connor Vega, who after some times, returns to the Panama rainforest. When he was called on a mission and seduces the daughter of a dangerous man,, he finds his mate, but only to betray her in the end, and knowing that he will always ache for her but will never see her once again especially after all of the pain that he has caused her. But he is shocked to discover that she is alive and has come to him for help, something he never expected. Isabeau Chandler, after falling in love with Conner and sharing the most intimate experiences with him, and then have him betray her, she knows she can never trust herself to open herself up to him again. But after Connor’s mother is viciously murdered and children are kidnapped including his younger brother, she knows she needs his help to rescue these children who have been kidnapped by a monster, and knowing that only he can help save them, despite the costs to her personally, but she is willing to sacrifice anything to save these poor children, who have no one else to help them. But sparks fly, as both Connor and Isabeau are working together toward a common goal, and heat and passion flare up in the wild rain forest, where they both discover that they still are in love despite the past hurts. Only love will heal both of their hearts, only when they choose to embrace it and take that leap of faith.Wild Fire is part of Christine Feehan’s Leapord series, and its been a remarkable journey to be able to read the books that she has so far written in this series. This is a remarkable author who has such a great talent for writing romance in the Paranormal world, and making it come truly alive and riveting for the author. In Wild Fire Connor is a Leopard as is Isabeau but she doesn’t comprehend that fact. Her father she loved dearly and after losing him she blames Connor for the betrayal, but the passion that once existed between them is still vibrant now that they are together once more, although circumstances are different. Isabeau is also feeling confused, especially since her inner leopard is coming out, and inside she is terrified knowing that she is Connor’s mate. Wild Fire is a remarkable adventure past betrayal and hurt, and learning of love and forgiveness. Christine Feehan has packed this novel with the best of the best characteristics of her fabulous writers, that astounds readers across the globe!!!
