Objectives
Students will be able to identify what it means to be responsible
Students will be able to identify at least one responsibility they have at home and one they have at school
Materials: Maya and Miguel: The Dog Walkers - available on United Streaming,
My Responsibilities - Home and School" activity sheet, Pencils/Crayons/Markers
Lesson:
1. The counselor will brainstorm with the class about what Responsibility means.
Do you follow the rules?
Do you give up when something is hard?
Do you try your best?
Who is responsible for you?
Who is responsible for making your choices?
2. The counselor will explain that being responsible means that you:
Do what you’re supposed to do
Always keep trying and do your best
Think before you act
Are accountable for your choices
3. Watch Maya and Miguel: The Dog Walkers
from United Streaming.Processing Questions:
What responsibilities did Maya and Miguel have?
Were they able to fulfill their responsibilities?
What happened when they didn’t?
4. The counselor will point out that we have different responsibilities at home and at school. Quick brainstorm a list of different home and school responsibilities.
5. Have students complete the Home and School Responsibilities activity sheet and draw and example of themselves being responsible at home and at school. If there is time, students will share their drawings with the group.

Are students able to identify responsibilities they have at home and at school?
