The poems in this collection explore the pain of this crucible and the later dementia of his mother. “Evenings on the Edge of Death” is also set in the context of the author’s adult traumas. In 2004, Mr. McDowell was disabled from the practice of law as the result of a traumatic brain injury suffered in a car accident. The injury led to periods of depression, mania, and substance abuse. Since the accident, Theodore has published two previous books of poetry: “Wrestling a Blessing from God” and “Yearning for Human Touch.” These two collections deal with his responses to his traumas. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia and is married with five adult children and six grandchildren scattered across the United States.view less
