He was born in Chile and grew up all over the world, living in and visiting such places as India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, France, Germany and the US. He has worked in a wide range of fields, including infantry paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, naturalist/guide in the Galapagos Islands, graphic designer, website developer, video ad designer, Thai boxing student instructor, computer applications instructor, cartoonist, and embossed metal artist. Derek has written over half a dozen screenplays and novels. He enjoys motorcycling, trap and skeet shooting, physical fitness, debating religious fundamentalists, learning Spanish and German, studying advancing technologies and weaponry of all types, and whatever else can add authenticity to his writing.view less
