He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1981 before joining the Air Force. A 30-year military veteran, he also obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Maryland and a Master's Degree in Leadership and Coaching from Bellevue University, Nebraska.
