He is the author of two previous books of an autobiographical nature, “Protected” and “Bossy.” Swarm writes a human interest weekly newspaper column, “Empty Nest” that is in about 50 newspapers in three states: Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. He is also a photographer and metal sculptor, making sculptures out of rusty metal, mostly old farm junk. A native Iowan, growing up in Monroe, Iowa, he now lives in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa with his wife and editor, Ginnie, one dog and one inspirational cat. Swarm also teaches creative writing in his home during the winter. Several of his students have published books. view less
