She studied horticulture in Glasgow and then environmental science, in which she received a doctorate from Napier College, Edinburgh. She taught science in Edinburgh, married and had a daughter. In 1988 she moved to Istanbul to teach at Marmara University. Later she taught English in Budapest and Damascus, travelling extensively in her holidays. She embarked alone, aged 50, to India, undeterred by the onset of Multiple Sclerosis and returned for two more 6-month trips. She kept travel diaries which evolved into her first book: Prana Soup, an Indian Odyssey (pub. 2013), which describes her adventures in candid and sometimes hilarious detail. Her second book: Good Vibrations, a Story of a Single 60s Mum (pub.2015) tells the story of how she became a single mother in 1960s Scotland. She is writing a third book about her experience of being a wwoofer (WWOOF=worldwide opportunities on organic farms) in New Zealand and Scotland.view less
