H...view moreDavid L. Brainard was an American arctic explorer and soldier. He is best known for serving as first sergeant under Adolphus Greely on the ill-fated Lady Franklin Bay expedition. He was one of only six crew members to survive. His two memoirs, Outpost of the Lost and Six Came Back, are based on this experience. Brainard passed away in 1946 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.view less
