After earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the City College of New York, he received his doctorate in clinical psychology in 1959 at the University of Buffalo (now part of the SUNY system). Prior to this he had interned briefly at Hillside Hospital in New York and then served two years of military service at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where he was in charge of psychological examiners. Concurrent with studying for his Ph.D., he completed four years as a psychology trainee at the VA Hospital in Buffalo.
He has taught classes in psychology at Yale University, Fairfield University and the University of Southern Connecticut, as well as psychology and a range of other courses in various Connecticut community centers and adult education programs.
He worked as a school psychologist for nearly 25 years, has served as the president of the Ct. Psychologists’ Association and boasts of many professional honors and distinctions as well as authorship of a broad array of professional articles and co-authorship of two professional books.
Dr. Losen lives in Westport, Ct., with his wife, Joyce, a journalist, with whom he has collaborated on several publications including a memoir about his sideline as a professional drummer and his lifelong interest in writing.
Ironically he had to retire from work as a psychotherapist and teacher because of a significant loss of hearing during the past two decades-- or else he’d still be listening.view less
