Over the last 35 years, he distinguished himself in quite a few high-profile positions that he occupied in government as well as the corporate world both local and internationally. He was the first MEC of Finance in the North West Provincial Government from 1994 until 2004. Prior to that, he spent 17 years in health care services. In June 2004 he became CEO of the South African Bureau of Standards a position he held until July 2009. From 2006 – 2009 he was Chairperson of the Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF); presiding over a R920 billion portfolio and by then the seventh biggest pension fund in the world. In 2009 after exiting the public sector, he then started his own business ventures. He currently occupies directorships on the boards of companies in the health care, financial services, telecoms and built environment sectors.
As a gifted communicator, he addressed audiences in many countries in conferences and high impact meetings. Given his rich experience and strategic insights, he became a trusted coach and mentor to quite a few influential leaders in the corporate and church environments.
