After completing his wrestling career at Purdue, he spent the next thirty-two years teaching art and coaching. He evolved over that time from a wrestling coach into an artist. He believes an artist is either ahead of or outside of society, observing people from a unique perspective. He watched the educational system evolve from a community based on the individual students to a system based on data and statistics. Farrand’s art classes were free from the control and confinement of this data driven school life. Retired now, he spends every day in his studio drawing and painting. As he pursued variety and creativity, the idea of writing and illustrating a book blossomed. He published his first short story ‘The Test Takers’ in 2011. ‘The Last of the Storytellers’ expands on the ideas and characters first met in the short story.view less
