Maxine Evadney West-Lyons was born in Kingston Jamaica.

She grew up in the lush garden parish of St. Mary, where she attended primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
Maxine went to Northern Caribbean University of the West Indies, (formerly West Indies College) in Manchester where she obtained a degree in Office Administration. After graduating, Maxine returned to Kingston where she worked with Heart Foundation, Precision Arts Limited and Speed- O -Graphic Printers Limited.
Mrs. Lyons has received awards for her poetry from: Poetry.com, International Society of Poets and the National Council of Negro Women.
On September 10, 2002 she appeared on Good Day New York, Fox 5 television where she was interviewed by their anchor Lyn Brown, and where she read her classic piece “Double Towers”, a poem written about 9-11.
