Aruba is a nineteen mile-long (thirty kilometers) island of the Lesser Antilles in the Southern Caribbean Sea. It is mere fifteen miles (twenty-four kilometers) from the coast of Venezuela.
Together with Bonaire and Curacao, it forms a group referred to as the ABC Islands of the Leeward Antilles, the southern island chain of the Lesser Antilles. I grew up in a community surrounded by a diverse mix of cultures: Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean, Dutch, Portuguese and American and South American.
Being around such a rich mix of people, cultures and ethnic groups , most definitely helped shape and influenced my writing style. I am fluent in English, Spanish and German.
I lived on the island of St. Croix, the US Virgin Islands, spent some time on the island of Puerto Rico, then moved to the United States, and in 1978, I joined the US ARMY. During my military duties: I traveled to Germany, The Netherlands, and France. I lived in Germany for a period of ten years then returned in the United States in 1990.
Today I reside in Los Angeles, California. I attended the California State University of Los Angeles. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. Years later, I graduated with a Masters in HealthCare Administration from Walden University. I am also an avid runner: I ran Four Marathons; three times the Los Angeles Marathon, and one time in Germany.
The birth of my poetry writing got started about ten years ago. As I was sitting at the ocean front in Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles, California. I was counting the number of waves that flowed in such a peaceful formation, one after the other. There were many, and each wave was formed with its own style and uniqueness. I thought for a moment ; if people’s relationship can only flow in the same formation as the waves, sharing love with that special person in your life in your own special way, falling in love can be a beautiful thing after all.
Having thoughts of beautiful expressions of love, inspired me to start writing a series of love poems that will help others to express their true emotions to that one special person in their lives. Romance is like a candle light dinner, each word must be delicately expressed with lots of care to set the tone of the night.
This journey has been an inspiring time in my life and has taught me to express the sincerity of what I feel inside. I hope this book of love poems deepens what you feel inside you for that special person in your life. I’d like to dedicate a special thanks to my family: my wife, Turusew, and my two sons: Alexander Addisu Wilson Jr and Johann Elias Wilson, for their patience and support.
Also a sincere appreciation to all my brothers and sisters: Edison, Carmen, Austin, Jane, Gwendolyn, Allan, Pearl, Mariam, Paul, Winston, Yvonne, Iris , Virginia and Johann. And without these two favorite people; I would not be here; Cecilia and Cleophas (my mother and father).
And last but not least, to all my friends for their support and encouragement to make this moment possible. Thanks to all that have been there for me.view less
