She has now turned to the serious influence that so-called popular fiction has and has had on the Anglo-American world. A preliminary event was The International Novel, which dealt with authors from India, Africa, Turkey, the Balkans, Palestine, Afghanistan, Mexico, and Crete. She is a Sterling Professor Emeritus of English at Yale University, where her interests in legal and political issues have been fostered.view less
