His book, Black Soldiers in Jim Crow, Texas, 1899-1917, won three awards including the T.R. Fehrenbach Award of the Texas Historical Commission. A native Houstonian, whose father was born in Rockdale, Texas, Christian is a professor of history at the University of Houston-Downtown and a Fellow of the Texas State Historical Association.view less
