He earned bachelor and master’s degrees in journalism from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a former commissioned officer, United States Marine Corps, and has been a newspaper reporter, a corporate communications executive, and an adjunct professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University. He and his wife, Judith, have two children and five grandchildren. They live in Central Virginia, in an area known as The Wilderness.view less
