assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 8th U.S. Cavalry in Mannheim, Germany. Upon his discharge in November of 1973, Brian attended the
Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa and received an Associates of Arts Degree in May of 1976. He then started classes
at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa that fall and joined the Army R.O.T.C. program.
Brian graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1979 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in
the United States Army. Brian's branch was Infantry, and he joined the Iowa Army National Guard in Boone, Iowa a short time later.
Brian did many years in the Iowa Army National Guard before retiring in December of 2011 with over 37 years of military service.
In February of 2012, Brian volunteered for a one-year tour to Afghanistan as a Department of Defense civilian and was stationed at
Camp Phoenix in Kabul.
Brian returned home from Afghanistan in March of 2013 and now works part-time as a school bus driver and trainer in Johnston, Iowa.
