He is the author of three collections of poetry-Black Shadows and Through the White Looking Glass: Remembrance of Things Past and Present (cowinner of the Edwin Mellen Poetry Prize); Sometimes Blue Knights Wear Black Hats (a National Poetry Series Finalist); and The Black Feminine Mystique (a Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award Finalist). Waters is a criminal justice professional and an independent consultant for a number of nonprofit and for-profit organizations. He states that he is “a change agent for a just society.” He has a master’s degree from New York Theological Seminary and bachelor’s degrees from SUNY New Paltz and Albany University.
