Growing up in a typical family unit, Madinah Wakil quickly found her place amongst a household of seven energetic girls. Being the middle child presented a unique set of challenges for her to find her identity. At an early age Madinah learned to appreciate the art of poetry writing and used her early experiences as a platform to create short stories and poetry, which gave meaning to her life.
Madinah is a mother, grandmother and native of St. Louis, MO. She earned a doctorate degree in education from St. Louis University and worked as a middle school teacher for more than 30 years. As an educator, Madinah coached many students in the art of writing articles, stories and poetry. Inspired by her love of poetry, Madinah encouraged students to continue to write and submit their work to contests.
Madinah has been working toward publication for ten years while teaching and is the author of a fictional novel “Gamble Street.”
Naimah Abdullah-Gales
Is the eldest daughter and middle child of author Madinah Wakil. Although she was raised by a single parent, Naimah was sometimes granted inner solitude to cultivate her thoughts into words thereby exercising her creativity. With the guidance of her mother, Naimah’s passion for poetry began to develop.
Naimah, now a mother to 4 and a grandmother to 2, currently holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. As life’s trials and tribulations continued to present themselves, she expressed herself through her words. Naimah used her experiences and emotions to inspire her talent. This inspiration has aided in the creation of the poems forthcoming.
Carlisha Abdullah
Carlisha Abdullah, a young inspired college student that strives to impact the lives of others, is working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work with a minor in Spanish at Missouri Western State University. As a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, she helped plan activities for the student body involvement on campus.
Carlisha serves as a positive influence in the lives of young ladies as a mentor in the Student of Color Orientation program. Abdullah achieved winning Miss Congeniality in the Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant. While she desire to help people in their daily lives, she holds the passion for poetry. She voices her love for poetry by rendering a self-written poem in the Girls Rock Program and the Western Activities Council Talent Show at Missouri Western. She writes poetry as a way to express what she feels in her life experiences and hopes to inspire others with her poetry.view less
