He was a parachutis...view moreNorman Phillips was raised by illiterate Polish grandparents. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and eventually became a decorated fighter pilot in World War II. He was a parachutist and mountain climber. He was shot down in Laos in 1968 and, after a high-speed ejection and a hair-raising rescue, retired from the Air Force. He then earned a BFA and MFA and taught sculpture at the University of Massachusetts for nineteen years. He started writing about ten years ago and is the author of Throw A Nickel On The Grassview less
