At 14 Bob, inspired by Mario Lanza, decided to sing opera. He eventually graduated from the Mannes College of Music in NYC, where he met the soprano of his life, Joan, whom he married in 1962. Persistently advised, “You’re not ready,” he took a temporary job with Scholastic, Inc. which lasted 30 years. During this period he sang over 40 opera roles – at night.
